Hi Folks,

I've had a plea for help from the FiL and I'm well outside my limited sphere of knowledge when it comes to parts for aging Jap 4x4's!

Pics below, AFAIK the first one is how it should look, second pic shows the plate that clamps to the underside of the leaf spring however the bolt that holds the rear shock in place has sheared off. At least that is how it looks to me.

The normally excellent local garage is saying a replacement can't be sourced and without a new part it's a write-off. Vehicle is otherwise in good condition and holds much sentimental value so a solution needs to be found.

Before options like fabricating a replacement are considered, is there a "go to" forum or specialist that might be able to help supply a suitable part?

If you can confirm that it's the same part as they used on the Daihatsu Fourtrak, I almost certainly have that part in one of the sheds on the farm (second hand). I'll have a look tomorrow and let you know if I can find it.

If I can, you can have it for the cost of postage, but please note I'm in Belgium! smile

Hi. That's most generous and I'm sure he'd snap your arm off and cover you a few beers as well as the postage.

My internet sleuthing hasn't confirmed if it is the same part yet, still looking!

I had a look this afternoon. Found quite a few parts, but the only one I found is the wrong side and is broken in the same place as yours is. The only good news is that I'm sure they are the same. I'm sure we have more parts but need more searching time. We have a lot of old sheds full of stuff!

There used to be a Daihatsu specialist about a half hour from here. They swapped to selling Hyundai but they still used to have a lot of Daihatsu parts. I'll be over that way early next week and can drop in and see whether they have anything.

Maybe pm me a number I can contact you on when I'm there?

ETA:

1. Have you tried https://www.milneroffroad.com ?

2. or https://www.facebook.com/groups/756573774943083

3. I will send you a PM. If you reply I can mail you the workshop manual in PDF format.

Hi,
Thank you again for this. Will reply to your PM shortly.

FiL tells me they've tried Milner already with no success. I've not looked at the Facebook group, will do that now.

Cheers

An old fashioned machine workshop would be able to fix that.

Agreed. Worse still FiL had all the gear to do it before he retired!

The (not insurmountable) challenge is that route means getting the car back from the current (normally good) garage who don't seem interested in thinking outside the box and then me getting the existing plates off, finding somewhere to take it to get a repair fabricated, etc etc.

Whereas somebody telling me where a replacement part can be found makes life much easier, if maybe a little less interesting :-)

I appreciate we are probably looking at the "interesting" option, hopefully I can use it as an excuse to buy more tools.

Odd that can find options for Mitsubishi L200 leaf spring hanger plate on the likes of Milner off road or ebay, but no Diahatsu.
Is it worth seeing if those are simlair dimensions ?

If you get stuck, send it to me, both parts and I.ll repair it with a new pin for the shock.

All the best
