Next spring I might have an opportunity to have something I've been dreaming of for a long time: A chrome bumper MGB GT.

However there are a couple of issues that frighten me a little with purchasing a B, and I would be grateful if anyone could help me sense check them.

The major thing that worries me is keeping the rot at bay. I don't yet have a garage but I've noticed that you can buy Carcoons. They look really promising with the groundsheet etc, however do I really need to wait until I have a proper building to put the B in?

The cost of major bodywork on a B would cause problems at home. I would be looking to buy a grade 2 car (excellent but not concourse), however is it realistic to expect major body repairs every few years? Especially if I'm using a Carcoon instead of a garage.

If anyone could advise it would be much appreciated. As much as I love the idea of a B, I guess in summary I need to understand if it's realistic for me to own one.

Many thanks
Matt

I wouldn't risk any car from that era without a garage (or at the very least a good, well protected car port).

IMO buying a car in good body/chassis condition and then keeping it dry is by far the cheapest way to own a classic.
