Hi all,
I have been looking at Evoras recently and wondered if anyone could give their thoughts on a 2010 NA.
I had a test drive and the car felt good but there were a few problem that I have asked the dealer if they would fix before a sale.
-Wiper and boot struts were not working which they said they would fix.
-It has the long gear box so this shouldn't be an issue although the clutch hasn't been changed (25k miles). But it felt okay.

Questions are:
-Is it normal for the hand brake to not fully dis-engage? When pulling off from lights, the ratchet didn't fell like it was releasing properly and needed a couple of goes to fully take off the hand brake. The dealer has said: "That is just a characteristic of Evoras of that era"... I think would get annoying.

-The passenger airbag was not fitting flush to the dash so the clips must have broken. the dealer has said "This is a feature of early Evoras this age - it happens where the leather shrinks over time. We can fix this for c.£400 but can't do it free of charge".
If I pay to get this fixed is it likely to stay fixed? Seems the kind of thing they should be sorting. Also why would leather shrinking cause the clips to break?

-Finally, does anyone have an idea what the 12 month Lotus Approved Warranty would include given it is a 13Y/O car? Clearly not the above two items.

I did like the car and am tempted, but given the items above and age I am starting to thing carry on looking as there are some cheaper private cars for sale, or consider a Cayman for £35k. It was raining when I looked at it so didn't get a good view of the paint, I did notice that the black painted intakes were starting to get flakes come off and would need touching in but that shouldn't be too difficult.

Thanks all, i'm nearly though the £20k Evora thread... smile

Wiper and Boot struts are both an easy/cheap fix. Boot struts losing their pressure is common, so don't worry about that, had it myself.

IMO the long box is awesome; I did lots of longer journeys in mine and being able to do 80mph @ 2k rpm made for effortless journeys....I appreciate it's not for everyone but it'd be my choice. Also, the CR box was occasionally (well, rarely) known to grenade itself, so less worry!

Clutch change...that's just a lottery unfortunately. Might last for 60k, might not.

Handbrake doesn't sound right, never heard that mentioned during my few years on forums. Mine certainly didn't need that....but can't imagine it's much more than an adjustment? Again, insist it's fixed if agreed sale.

Airbag lift. Very, very common. It's due to the sunshine hitting the dash. TBH I'd insist they did it as part of the sale; £400 is actually reasonable (as it's a PITA dash-out job) but given the market as it stands, no chance I'd pay for it. Also, once done get yourself a sunscreen if the car will be kept outside to avoid it happening again.

All in, none of those would be a huge worry for me, some are just typical Evora issues - I think my only concern might be the clutch, as I say it can be a lottery but it's far cheaper than it used to be, around £2k now. If everything else ticks for you (colour, spec, service history etc) then go for it.

Also, worth digging though the SH to see if it has the MY12 gear linkage upgrades....

Thanks for the detailed info Matte.
I can imagine the long gearbox makes for good cruising, I have and S2000 now which is just a shade under 4k RPM at 70mph which is a little high hehe . I did read about the CR box occasionally breaking.

I couldn’t live with the dash being broken, I’ll see what they say.

Interesting that the clutch cost has come down, I had read is was £3k. My S2000 has a reputation for short clutch life but I’m on 120k now with no signs of a problem so this isn’t the biggest worry.

The dealer did say the 2012 gear linkage hadn’t been fit.
