My daughter and son in law popped out to do a shop. Got back to the car and it wont turn over to start. The AA/ RAC turned up and said the alternator was gone. They had a new battery fitted 6 months ago. So, luckily a passer by took my grandson ( 2 weeks old) and son in law home and the recovery took the car to the usual garage, with my daughter, they use for servicing. They said it isnt the alternator and they had no fault codes to go by. So, a Volvo dealer technician then appered with his Vida ( at a guess) software and also stated that he had no codes to show what it was. Currently the car is stuck at the garage ( 10 days now) and they dont have any other transport which is awkward other than hiring a car. They are in Chislehurst , Kent and I found a Volvo Techie guy somewhere local to them and my daughter is going to enquire if he can help today.
But has anyone else had a similar situation on a non- coded non- start on their XC90 ? Looking on youtube , someone mentioned a relay fault but never mentioned which one !
Any help would be good smile

Car was 'lifted' onto a truck and taken to Volvo Diagnostics in Tilbury. They couldnt wheel it onto a truck as the wheels were locked. I am guessing the gearbox as couldnt start and put into neutral as an auto. The guys there got to work and have fixed the car. I dont know the fault but my daughter mentioned the steering column but the phone line was fuzzy. I will put up here the diagnosis when she collects it tomorrow.

Ours did something similar. Pretty sure it was a steering lock sensor or something like that.

You could be right on the money as they had to change the steering lock. Can't recommend the guy enough to diagnose to repair in a couple of days. Included the labour, parts and the lorry lift to collect the car for £500.
Saves me worrying about my daughter using my car while she house sits next week,as she can use hers now smile

Really nice car, but that was the second time it let us down, so it was fixed by Volvo and promptly sold.

Yep, ours did the same - steering lock issue - luckily fixed under warranty for us a few years ago
