Panda TwinAir vs 1.2
Discussion
Hi all,
In the market for a 2012-on Panda.
Head says 1.2 FIRE as bulletproof but dull.
Heart says TwinAir as a peach of an engine but definitely more likely to throw a wobbly.
If heart prevailed, what would you look for on a TA and would you be better off getting a lower mileage example?
Any other thoughts/feedback welcome.
TIA!

I have the earlier model Panda (169) with the 1.2 petrol lump. I considered the later model (319) but decided to do it on the cheap.
From my research and my connection with a Fiat / Alfa specialist, there are a few issues to watch out for on the TwinAir
From my research and my connection with a Fiat / Alfa specialist, there are a few issues to watch out for on the TwinAir
- service history is vital - they aren’t very tolerant of lack of maintenance
- correct oil is imperative - your local back-street garage is probably not the best place to have oil changes done
- they can be a bit gutless off boost, which leads to them being driven harder than would be the case for a “normal” engine
- fuel economy is not good if you try to make progress
- if you have the 4x4, the lack of low-down grunt before the turbo spools can be an issue off road
