Probably clutching at straws here, but I'm trying to find some enthusiasm for a work trip to Basingstoke, with a return trip in the rush hour. There used to be a small American diner, next to a petrol station, iirc it was not far outside Basingstoke on the way in from the M4 direction. Anyone know if it`s still there or long gone ? I'm contemplating sitting and eating a burger and fries before slogging along the M4 for two hours.

It's just outside Kingsclere, and long dead I'm afraid. The premises is still there and rotting away.

Did you mean the M3? I only ask because "the way in" from the M4 to Basingstoke on the A33 is about 15 miles from it's closest point, more like 20mi on the A339?

Either way, nit picking....but there are lots of pleasant little Indian restaurants and country pubs with good ales and open fires dotted in and around Basingstoke if that tickles your fancy instead.

Otherwise it'll be good old BK at Chieveley services... yuck

Kingsclere does sound right actually. I will see what takes my fancy on the way. Chieveley will be a last resort laugh

Very late to this, but
Podium Place off Hambridge lane Newbury is an ideal coffee stop. Cafe in a car showroom.

Sit and eat , surrounded by exotica right next to you

Thanks chaps. I will bear them in mind when I am down there next. This weeks delight is Bracknell for a Christmas meal, but that is at the Golden Retriever.
