What a thrilling end to 2023. Roll on, 2024. Can Marc Marquez get back to winning ways or will he crash with all the young chargers?

Less than a week away to 2024 and 12 weeks to the first race, I’ve got silverstone all booked but looking to go to Portugal for the second race, any tips.

The beginning half of 2023 I said to myself.i wouldn’t renew my pass as i just wasn’t enjoying it, the last half though was great and 2024 is looking to what could be one of the best seasons for a good few years!!

When’s the next test??

I think 1-3 Feb is next, a shakedown test for test riders and rookies. Then 6-8 Feb is the next official test, both are at Sepang.

Trackhouse are getting a factory Aprilia for Oliveria, but not Raul (I bet he's his usual happy self after hearing that news).

I am frankly amazed he is still there, watertight contract no doubt.

He’ll be getting one down the line apparently.

Looking forward to the season already. Will be fascinating if Marc Marquez can mount a first title challenge since 2019, and how Ducati deal with that. I can't see anyone taking the title away from Bologna though, much as KTM and Aprilia will win individual races.

I might take in a race later on in the season. My wife was going to get me tickets for Silverstone for Christmas but I pointed out we could probably go to Misano for the same money. Our daughter will be 4 by then so somewhere that you can get to without too much fuss will be key...

Only thing I would say is that it can be incredibly hot at Misano 40+ in summertime, so be wary as a lot of the viewing there is on bleachers rather than covered stands.

Appreciate the tip - you been before? We went back in 2013. It was about 30 degrees, so warm but not awful - and crucially in the bleachers there's room to run around and stuff. Also Curvone allows you to see much of the circuit.

With climate change she's already had a couple of summers in London with that heat. Will have to see - if we get tickets for the Euros in Germany we'll be going to that anyway.

God no I would never dream of going to the Italian coast in mid summer, f r too hot! I am simply going form evidence of many years of watching bike racing and remembering Misano often being one of the hottest events during each season. It used to be a very lethal place in the day, very slippery track. before it was ruined completely for safety reasons it also had the best corner sequence ever!!

They now hold it in mid-September. Misano is a holiday resort and it seems convenient they get a MotoGP round the week after the Italian schools go back to eke out the holiday season a bit more!

I can understand why they don't run it the other way round any more - not a lot of run off at the end of the back straight. Which bit are you claiming as "best corner sequence ever?" Curvone is good to watch at as you can see the bikes slide at 150 mph plus even with the naked eye, which is pretty spectacular,

For myself - as only Silverstone and Donington are the only MotoGP tracks I've ridden - most of Silverstone is a great track as it's properly fast to ride. Not just my opinion, Marc Marquez has it as one of his favourites. In the pre-MotoGP era, the Keppel Gate to Creg Ny Ba section of the TT is also great to ride.

Chaz Davies rumoured to be returning to racing on the MotoGP race weekends in MotoE - https://bikesportnews.com/motogp/chaz-davies-tippe...

He was doing a lot of testing for the Ducati MotoE bike so it won't be all new to him either and he can have some fun.

On the old Misano, the 4 left handers onto the back straight were truly awesome bends, but probably of that era in SBK and 500#s as no TC or aids, so it was proper balls out rear spinning edge of tyre stuff, and some great passes could be set up there.

the same series is great now but more for one bend, not the whole series, plus I think it was where there was I thin a fatal there Tomizawa and I remember the camera flicking back to see it almost live so it holds a bad place in the heart too,

My Mrs was going to get me VIP tickets for my birthday to go to Silverstone, the year that it was rained off..

I had thankfully talked her into VIP at Misano instead for the same price and we had a great time in the September sun.

I go every year, so cheated a little bit... wink

I went to silverstone this past season and tbh I wouldn’t go again for the simple reason that I ended up not knowing who won as where I was sitting there was minimal screen and poor if any comms so as a viewing experience it’s better on the tv

I wish Yamaha would get their act together and give FQ the bike he needs.

I am not sure how many years are left on the GP contract with Silverstone, but their current track record is not great for events that start losing big chunks of attendance.

OK GP still gets a far greater number of people through the gate than say WEC or GTWC in cars, but they have suffered a large drop in attendance in the last couple of years for the GP race there

I think a number of factors, namely Rossi, huge fan base in the UK, the prices are a bit daft, not just tickets but parking and the other stuff. and also the place is just not great for viewing.

I think they approach it the same way as F1 in that people will JUST PAY whatever, but I think they really do not appreciate bike fans are not quite as easily pliable!! They just will not go if you stack too many things against it.

I am convinced if it was say 50 quid a ticket attendance would be pretty big
