At the rear of the chassis the raised lugs with a captive nut serve no purpose on my car .
Is it perhaps for a roll over bar?

Generic chassis for the two models close the voids or remove any thing that is not used. A@

Yes. I omitted them on my replacements as they only serve as a mud trap.

My seatbelt ends and roll over bar are bolted to the raised lugs, where are your seatbelt ends bolted to?

To the right of that lug by about 100 mm is the seat belt anchor point.

Depends...pick up postions can be different (picture of my old 93 Chim), here is a double upstand which has 7/16 UNF philidas nuts (full metal nyloc) welded inside.

Great picture and thanks for that.
You learn something new every day.
So that suggests both the roll bar and seat belt bolted to that lug. Is that correct.
I wonder how many other earlier cars came in this configuration..
Do we have a rough date for when this design changed to the one like Pauls above as my 2000 car is the same as his chassis.

I have over the years rebuilt 20-30 post 91 chassis cars, so there are lots of differences. that up-stand has two Philidas nuts welded into the inner face with only one being used for the seat belt, which then has a bridging spacer tube, bringing the face though the FG (sealed with a butyl sealant) for the seat belt tophat/wavy washer, long large head seat belt bolt (they have slim heads) to allow the belt eyelet to rotate. It doesn't help for the initial question, mine, a 96 Mk1.5, had also this piece of metal. We changed the outriggers 2 years ago and the new ones do not have them.
And the seat belt has always been bolted where the read arrow is.

My seat belts are bolted in the same position as Aluns (Chim) and Zebs 100mm foward of the lug. No roll bar.

I had no idea that this would elicit such a discussion.
