I'd like some thoughts on a couple of related Alfa things:

I'm selling my 159. A chap got in touch via Marketplace (it's initially being advertised in Alfa specific pages on F-book). Asked no questions but a lot is explained in the ad so maybe that was enough. He enquired as to price, I gave one, he said deal and he'll be over on Friday after work to collect and pay cash. He said he's worked with Alfas for 40 years and has about 10 in storage. I asked which one was his favourite and he said a supercharged 147 GTA which will do nearly 200mph.

My questions are:

• A 200mph 147? Really? Call me sceptical but that sounds ludicrous.

• I'm not 100% comfortable about taking multiple thousands of pounds cash on a Friday evening when banks are shut. I'll suggest bank transfer instead. Is there anything to worry about regarding banks transfers? I don't think they can be reversed can they?

I suspected as much, thanks for confirming my suspicions. Despite saying he'll be over at 5pm tonight to pay by bank transfer he doesn't know where I live. I'm not telling him either.

Make sure the transfer is via Faster Payments rather than BACS. BACS cab be reversed Faster Payments not so.

To no surprise, the 'buyer' was a no show. I would have been surprised if he had arrived on the doorstep as he never asked for my address.

Not sure what the scam would have been, probably just a time waster.

I'm pretty sure Autodelta made a number of Supercharged cars with impressive power figures, but 200mph seems a stretch. Maybe 'nearly 200' is more like 160-170. Who knows?
BTW, I'm in the market for a 159 Sportwagon. Would yours fit the bill or is it a saloon?

Funnily enough I did a search and found mentions of the Autodelta modded ones.

I'm not sure what the scam was in this instance, or it may have simply been a timewaster.

Saloon I'm afraid. A very nice, very rare one but a saloon never the less.

My Fiat Coupe had the same gearbox/final drive and yes, tuned to 340hp it did still accelerate well at 260km/h and there were some revs left to go, in 6th gear. I only stopped out of pure fear.
