Today, my broker has confirmed that their panel of 4 insurance companies will no longer insure Land Rovers. I have made a number of phone calls only to discover another 4 insurers who declined to insure a Land Rover product.
There must be hundreds (possibly thousands) of Land Rovers owners on Pistonheads ..... what are you all doing .... any advice/recommendations.
Looking for proper input. Please don't tell me to sell it !!!
Thanks.

What type of Land Rover are you trying to insure?

Hi jeremyc ...... it's a Discovery 5. I've now managed to get one quote ..... an increase from £347 to £965.
I've also had a call from a friend a few minutes ago who has also been quoted an increase to just under £1000.
Surely this will impact on Land Rover sales and slaughter residual values.

Theft and insurance is indeed slaughtering residuals…..

You're rather late to the party.

There is another thread too. It is quite a huge story but I am surprised it's not bigger on forums. For me, none of the top rated insurers will offer a policy at all. Even if the premium was the value of the car, it's a "no". It's an unusual business decision for so many huge companies to have made and is like they're saying the cars are uninsurable. I don't really get that and does appear JLR have tightened up new models so they should be amongst least easy to steal.

Options I could find were JLR (very high premium but offered a policy), Admiral and Esure. The last 2 are not great if you need to claim in my experience and their ratings do suggest they're not ideal options based on consumer ratings. Other worry I had was if Admiral/Esure pulled plug over next year it seemed the only possible option would be JLR.

I suspect not grown even more as a story as:
1. Some insurers are offering something if you already have a policy and it's a renewal. Or they're offering a special theft excess. Only new policies are a flat no.
2. Many people have not tried to renew as yet, since it's become way worse over past couple of months. It might also have righted itself later in year by time they do.

Thank you to those who have given constructive input.
For every ones information I have completed the JLR on-line insurance application (they will not provide quotes on the phone) and it is the second highest quote I have received (I have a clean licence, with maximum NCB, etc, etc).
I made a formal complaint to the largest JLR dealership chain yesterday and spent half an hour on the phone with the top man.
We had a polite but very frank exchange. He could not defend the situation. I informed him that I have been a serial Land Rover and Jaguar owner over many years and that I will now leave the brand, never to return.

You complained to the dealership about insurance? What do you expect a dealer to do about your insurance quote.

The £965 quote you said you got seems fairly reasonable.

Insurance has shot up for me - LV won't renew and the best quote I can get is £2,177 - 2 years ago it was £987 and last year £1,277
Just to put this into context I have a Golf R of similar value to the Velar and it is £674...
