Typing "Train Station" into the google maps app on my iPhone, the first result is Nottingham, followed by Basingstoke followed by somewhere in Belgium. None of those places I am near. Any clues?

Thanks.

Try "Railway Station". That lists all the ones I'm near.

It's Google's way of suggesting you buy android.

Have you got any of Apple's privacy settings turned on that limit exact location sharing? It's something like 'Precise Location' in the app's location settings (per-app settings are under Location Services), so you can disable it for Google maps, but keep it on for stuff that only needs to know you're in the UK (for example).

Also check VPN as it may affect the location

I don't use a VPN but mine does the same. Nottingham and Basingstoke.

Are you just 'typing' or have you actually finished typing and pressed search? I find the latter gives you firm results

If i type "Train Station" and hit enter then it lists the local bus stops.

May be a common thing. I get something similar:

Google maps doesn’t necessarily give you the nearest results for any given search. It’s quite clear in their blurb.

As I suggested earlier what do you get if you type ‘train stations near me’?

There's a few decent pubs near Nottingham train station. Might as well go there.

Same result as "Train Station"..... the local bus stops.

I know the reason for the Nottingham thing.

Nottingham was the centre for British lace making. There was a special division in Carrington Street that made lace trains for bridal dresses. It was the only one in the UK and was "The Train Station".

For me it lists Basingstoke Station, which is near, but not the closest.
Then everyone's favourite, Nottingham Station!
Then Bruge, then Paris...

Perhaps they use the same search engine they use in the desktop search, which has been producing rubbish results for me for a while now.
