Hi all

Was recently gifted a Canon EF 24-105mm F/4 IS USM lens which soon developed the Err 01 fault, which I researched and discovered to be a common issue related to the aperture flex cable. I managed to buy a new cable, stripped the lens down and then discovered the aperture ring to which the cable is soldered was actually the problem. Which means the lens was disassembled for a couple of weeks while I waited for the new ring to arrive. Despite being really careful and cataloguing the screws and the order in which they were removed, I managed to lose one. It is one of three screws which attach to the barrel inside a white collar, with part number XA9-1518-000 (picture below). I am really struggling to find a replacement one, and it's become something of a personal mission to not give up on this lens despite its age. I also don't really want to spend a lot of money replacing it right now. Does anyone know where I can get one of these screws please, some mystical shop in the back of beyond or an online specialist I'm missing?

It might be worth finding out whichever other EF lenses use that particular screw (probably most of them) and buy a cheap for-spares only lens on ebay.

Thank you, that's an idea.

Also I have no idea how I managed to post this in the lounge, so could a moderator please move it to photography?

Many are similar to screws used in computers. If you've an old laptop, strip it down.

For the ones in the image, you might do better to use eBay for boxes of mixed screws - you can never have enough screws - as they show what's in the boxes.

I had a box, possibly from Smallrig, some years ago. The box catches broke off and I dumped them all in a locking lid box. It's my go-to if all else fails.

The suggestion of striping down an old version of your camera and lens is a great idea. I had a kit car based on a Hillman Hunter. I bought three, stripped them for every small part. I never had to buy any other spare part.

Nice idea about the laptop, worth a look at eBay for boxes of mixed screws too...

Yeah, I saw the USCamera site but 30 days put me off a little. I'll order them if all else fails thank you.

Can anyone somewhere that supplies Canon parts?

I have a broken 1.4 extender that broke in a fall a few years back, bought a replacement but this thread reminded me about it so dug it out and pulled it apart, and worked out what internal part is broken. I have had Fixation fix gear in the past, but there isn't much to these, and paying someone to do what I have already half done would make it uneconomic to repair.

Cheers in advance

I just came back to update this thread with my solution, and it may help you too. I managed to get the screws I was after from 1st Aid Repairs in Kent, £10 delivered.
