Storing Contracts

I have a physical, wet signed contract and I'm starting to think keeping it in my home office isn't the best idea so I'm looking for suggestions/recommendations/what you do with these contracts.

In the event that the fire proof safe only contains contracts and paperwork and no valuables would you lock the safe?

A client had a fireproof safe which they didn't lock and they even went as far as placing a big notice to tell any burglar/safe cracker that the safe only contained paperwork and was not locked.

You could ask your solicitor to store it for you.

Scan it and put a copy in the cloud, or email it from one address to another

It needs to be stored in a fire proof / waterproof safe and in an off site archive (cloud provider and separate hard copy) for the duration of the contract and subsequent warranty & indemnity periods therein - 6 years or 12 years depending on whether signed under hand or under seal.

The contract you don't keep is the one you want later...

What’s the purpose of a separate hard copy?

Surely for almost any future predicament, if the original is lost, and ‘copy’ will be digital or a printout from digital, and storing a digital copy is many times easier.

Great advice, thanks all! I'll go and purchase a fireproof safe as well as storing a digital copy on the cloud.

I had considered a safe deposit box, but those seem to have gone out of fashion and the only providers left didn't fill me with confidence for some reason I can't quite put my finger on.
