2010 R8 V10 - my drivers side front fan stays on as soon as the key goes in the ignition and doesn't switch off for about 20 mins.

Garage went through the steps on ODIS and said the fan + module needs replacing at the cost of £900! (same part number from a lamborghini)

(their steps included checking the relay, and then disconnecting the fan to the ECU and just having it conected to 12v power to see if it stays on which it did = their verdict that the fan module is powering itself)

I've removed said fan and plugged it into the passenger side which lead me to think the module on the back of the fan is actually not at fault as it wasn't constantly on.

I replaced the Relay for the fans and still the problem persists.

One of these days i might remove the passenger side fan fan and plug it into the drivers side to definitely rule out that the fan is at fault here.

Any idea what the next steps would be?? ECU issue? Didn't suspect Engine Temp sensor as its only 1 fan that stays on constantly.

Any help would be much appreciated.

thanks

Sounds like a similar problem that I had on an A3, 3.2L - 1 of 2 fans would stay on permanently until the battery went flat, I had to pull the fuse out to stop it.

Took it to the Audi dealer who diagnosed it as a faulty fan controller which, I was told was an integral part of the fan and then required both fans replacing. Luckily it didn't cost £900 but, whilst in there they discovered a leak in the radiator so by the time the job was finished it wasn't far off.
