Love/Hate - ITV X

Onto the final series of this (there are 5 in total).
Apparently made a few years ago but wow, if you’re a shrinking violet then it’s not for you. All about Dublin drug gangs and it seems eerily realistic - lots of brutal violence, sex, drug taking and bad language but strangely addictive.
Brilliantly written and the characters are totally believable.
Surprised that it’s on ITV X as that’s not their normal brief.
Well worth a watch.

I've just binge watched all 5 seasons of this and agree, it's really very good.

Seems to have started quite a few peoples careers including odd looking Barry

I would expect something like that to be on BBC or Channel 4. ITV is still in my opinion, the “light entertainment” choice. Only my opinion of course.

I watched Love/Hate, along with Kin, and I'm left wondering.....in real life, are organised crime organisations or families run by boozed up, coked up, hooker using fkwits?

I've kind of always imagined those at the top were actually pretty smart guys, who didn't use drugs themselves. Like in the Godfather, Michael and Vito were pretty clean living (murder aside) whilst hothead Sonny got himself shot on the causeway and Freydo, who was a complete fool, just had a minor role in the family before Michael had to kill him for being a blabbermouth.

I wouldn't trust Nidge to run a bath successfully, let alone a drugs empire. Just not seeing it.

I think a lot of these dramas were commissioned/ released on BritBox and after a period become available on iPlayer / ITV X, hence why they don't fit the normal channel stereotype.

Tried this after Kin, thought it was like a cheap gangster comedy soap opera. Hollyoaks with 'heavies'. Only managed two episodes, happy to concede it might improve but on the face of it, not for me...

I used to work in a weekly triangle of Dublin, Belfast & London , London being home. The truth is, Dublin is not a very nice city. The centre is ok, but much of the city is very poor, with high levels of drugs and prostitution. It doesn't have a very pleasant atmosphere, just in my opinion of course. Belfast is much nicer.

It definitely gets better as the series go on, honestly I thought the same - but we stuck at it and would recommend doing so.
