..just finished doing a wheel bearing on my A6 Allroad and what a pig of a job.

the bearing fits inside the aluminium swivel hub and galvanic corrosion then does it's evil work. Utter barsteward to get them out, heat, penetrating fluid and lots of hammering evetually released it after much swearing. grumpy

...no surprise I was quoted over £300 + VAT by a specialist. A FAG bearing was only £51 from Autodoc so I made a healthy saving - just as well I have a lift though as it would be a total pig to do off a trolley jack

The bearings are press fit and need a hydraulic press to remove/insert, no wonder doing that by hand was a pig of a job...

Yes, but the bearing and hub assembly is only a snug fit into the swivel hub but had seized in due to corrosion - this was the bh part of the job, removing the hub/bearing assembly from the car.

...I have access to a 15 tonne press so pressing the new bearing onto the splined hub was the easy bit
