Rubber trim scratch repair

All,

During my first week of ownership, I've uncovered a scratch on some rubber trim that had clearly been touched up or hidden.

To replace it requires a whole new rear quarter window, so I'm looking at options for repairing it or covering it as a first port of call.

Is this repairable, given that it's on a rubber moulding? Would wrapping this work as a short-term cover-up?

To my mind, there are 3 options:
Complain to dealer. (I assume it is a brand new car).
Replace it yourself (now or later)
Live with it.

I have had the same damage to a rear fixed glass rubber on a brand new Volvo V60.

The dealer said they would offer me $200.00 as a credit toward the car and have a tech complete a repair.

The repair looked seamless enough when the car was picked up.

About 6 months later the repaired area looked worse than before as what ever was applied to conceal the damage was peeling away.

I would say you could either live with it as is or have the glass removed and the rubber seal replaced.

Traded the car back 2 years later, they were not fussed about the rubber condition on return. I figured they would just do another repair and move the car on to the next person.

Id say replacement is the only option or it will continue to bug you.

I reckon compounding the whole trim with Meguiars Ultimate Compound for example would improve it. It won’t get rid of the deeper scratches but it should get it to a point it will catch the eye less.
