Despite running and cooling perfectly, my specialist recommended a new rad for 'Thumper' at his recent service.

Hmm, the blue deposits, top right, suggest a recore/refresh is in order. I guess you’ve got your moneys worth out of this one!

What is the current consensus on radiators? Get a new alloy type (eg ACT) or refurb the standard one ?

My specialist recommended a refurb as alloy ones are more prone to cracking

That was always my thinking to refurbish the original brass rad as they are more resistant to movement wheras aluminium rads are less so.

Many owners have replaced with aly and been very happy and since replacing mine with Aly some years ago I have been very pleased.

Aly are lighter and seem much less prone to corrosion as the steel bits on the original rust faily quickly,

I did put some springs to supplement the mounting of the rad and make it less prone to body movement, So far no problems.

The cost of refurbishment of Brass at the time was virtually the same as a new Aly one.

Deffo go refurbished, the TVR specialist I use has stopped fitting new as they had too many back due to cracking.
