Is it just me or are rental car prices insane?

Looking to hire a car from Gatwick for a couple of days in the July (peak season I know). Sixt and Alamo all want well over £100/day for a Kia Picanto! Drivalia and National are a bit cheaper but some of thier reviews are horrendous, anyone used either?

Any recommendations for companies or booking sites besides www.rentalcars.com or www.holidayautos.com

bad company

I use Hertz but constantly checking the price and if it drops cancel & re book. I do the same with hotels.

I paid £35/day for a Polestar 2 from Hertz last year, but they seem to have stopped thier EV offers, and annoyingly thier desk at Gatwick closes at 8 pm. I hadn't realised prices fluctuated that much to make it worth tracking them and rebooking though

It's not just you.. They are, and have been since 2020. National is cheaper than Alamo? That's surprising.. It's the same company.

We were over in the UK last October and had the same issue with all the big rental companies. We ended up hiring a RAV4 from a local hire firm close to where my parents live. It cost us £1039 for 21 days, which was significantly cheaper than the equivalent we could have got from Heathrow.
