Quick question for any E-Up owners. Does the little plastic cover over the charge port (not the door, just the little black insert) normally lock in position when you lock the car?

I ask this because a few weeks ago we had an issue where we could not remove our port cover and could not charge the car. It eventually fixed itself in the sense that it released a day later. Since then it does not lock in place at all except for once when it did lock in place again and once again got stuck there for a while.

When this first happened I called VW to get it sorted under warranty but thanks to the amazing level of service that main dealers offer these days, I could not get it booked in until today (5 weeks later). It was also due its first 'service' so that was done today as well.

Anyway, I'm a bit pee'd off to be told that all they have done is to lubricate the solenoid which I told them I’d already done. I went out to the car and the cover was still completely loose whether the car is locked or not. I spoke to the service desk again and was told that the cover shouldn't normally lock and that the locking solenoid only activates when a charge cable is plugged in. So the car is behaving normally. It was 6pm by this point and I wasn't really in the mood to argue and I wasn't absolutely certain I was right. Except I could swear it always used to lock the cover when the car was locked and in fact I remember watching Johnny smith’s review of the E-up before we got our's and he could not work out how to unlock the cover during the review (I suspect that car was actually faulty) so presumably it does lock?

I don't actually care if the port cover locks but what I am concerned about is it deciding to lock again and then staying shut which has now happened to us twice. If it just stayed unlocked forever I'll be happy to ignore it.

Cheers. Pretty much confirms I'm not going mad. Unfortunately when our's gets stuck, it really gets stuck and has taken hours to free off regardless of how many times I've locked/unlocked. I'll take it up with the dealer and see how they respond.
