Hi,

So after months and months of searching for an E-Niro (20/21), it looks like there are more coming around with a valid service history in my price range (£18.5k-£20.5k). I was planning to buy one over the weekend but noticed that more Ioniq 5s were available at a distance I could travel to test drive and were at a price I could justify (£22k-£24k).

I understand these are different cars, I'd be planning to use the car mostly for my dog and so the Ioniq 5's 500l+ boot is really attractive as it would give my GSD a lot of space if I need to take passengers.

From what I gather there's been a significant increase in Ioniq 5 robberies over the last year making me think I might need to get a Ghost Immobiliser. Additionally, I think with the E-Niro I would get an extra 2 years warranty with a lower cost to buy the car and slightly lower cost for insurance.

Just curious of people's experiences with both, particularly if there's a reason to not buy one of them.

Can't really help with the comparison since I haven't driven the E-Niro. But we ended up getting Ioniq 5 year and a half ago. Very happy with the car, approaching 40,000km.

We needed a car that suited longish road trips (up to 1200km/750miles per day), and back in 2022 the charging infrastructure in central Europe was less developed than today. Thus, there were major differences in estimated travel times between the car models. Today might be a bit different; according to https://abetterrouteplanner.com/ on Geneva to Amsterdam trip you'd spend a bit over two hours charging a 64kW E-Niro versus ca. one hour with Ioniq 5.

Saving a bit over one hour on a trip like that might not be worth 4000£ unless you do several trips like that a year.

However, being RWD or AWD instead of FWD, having the vehicle to load (230V socket inside the car) and the extra room might tip the scales towards Ioniq 5.
