No I don’t want new Fxxxing outlook

Use outlook for emails, every couple of weeks it changes to a new slower version, so i swoop back, but it doesnt end there, every few feeks it changes, just leave it alone, works fine and im happy, just stop.

I like that in the new version it previews the attachments and in chains with multiple replies you can still see the attachments.

I don't like the replacement of Tasks with To Do, its over complex.

I also can't find all the email recall functions, the recall and replace seems to be missing.

Overall its not too bad.

I have tried new one for a couple of weeks and there are some strengths to it, but the performance hit is too much. It also doesn't seem to have autocorrect built in, which I use for shortcuts when typing.

I have therefore reverted and my work laptop seems much happier with the old outlook. I think the new one is very poorly optimised as it seems very resource intensive.

Shame, I always used to like new software when it was launched, but these days it is quite unlikely to be an upgrade. Like most tech companies offerings, enstification is evident.

Annoyingly, it doesn't seem to import shared inboxes across when it installs.

It's really bad. You can't sync SharePoint calendars with it, can't open PST files (at the moment). I gave up and went back to the old version. It seemed to be worse than outlook express if anyone remembers that.

I have just "updated" mine on a new laptop. Now is it mainly a black screen, I do not like!!

Yes. Using registry editor (you may have to run it as administrator) navigate to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences

Once there, create a new 32-bit DWORD value called UseNewOutlook and set its value to 0 (Hex)

Thunderbird is now bringing support for the Exchange protocol. This is good.

The new Outlook is horrible, I tried it for 10 minutes and went back. It's never changed since but I am subbed to M365 so this might help it stick.

New outlook is appalling and it keeps forcing you back to it, but as a 3tn dollar business they couldn't care less, a feedback sheet pops up as you try to revert back to old outlook yet unless you agree to stay with new outlook you cannot submit your rant to them...

That's the thing. You don't HAVE New Outlook because it's a web app. That's why it performs so horribly. You own it as much as you own Pistonheads.com when you visit this site.

I have no problem with proper installed Outllook as used by business users all over, but I liked the simplicity of the Mail app in Windows 10. But no, they want us to use complicated, slow web app Outlook instead because it means that out mail goes through their servers to be displayed in the web app, and that allows them to read our mail and then target us with advertising that we don't want.

Since when did I agree to Microsoft showing me advertising in my operating system and in my applications? I never did. MS are already starting to push people towards Linux in their droves. Linux already underpins every Android phone out there, and it's really starting to gather pace on the desktop too. I currently run Windows 10 but will likely never move to Windows 11. My current company allows us to run whichever OS we prefer on the hardware they provide. The only reason I haven't is because I actually quite like the proper Microsoft Office suite and I use the Affinity suite, both of which I'd have to run a Windows VM for...

What alternatives are there that work well then on Win10/11? Not really liking the new outlook.

Was thinking of building an Ubuntu (or Debian derivative like PopOS or Elementary) Linux system for mail and stuff as a few YT videos have suggested the latest version too be very good. But maybe that's a thread that requires it's own existence.

Is Thunderbird really the only decent free offering?

I used to o use Outlook but got fed up with all the spam even if it gets trapped so switched to BT as I'm a BT customer so it's free. What an utter total load of rubbish, even basic functions don't work. There's a BT Customer Community forum which seem to act as a onofficil testing resoure!

It's what I've been using since its early days and have never felt the need to look elsewhere. Likely to be available for Android in the not too distant future too.
