A strange question... Im getting my midget resprayed and cleaned up and really want some metal B+W number plates - its purely cosmetic, but wondered if there were any rules on the age of how old the car needs to be.

its 1973, if anyone knows then please let me know!!

Thanks

There is a definite date for displaying the "Old Style" metal plates rather than the "Acrylic" Yellow and Black ones, but can't remember it!!
If you e mail www.dvla.gov.uk with the question they will let you know, I have found them to be usually pretty quick to reply.

Not sure about the legality but I've had B&W plates on my '73 MGB for ages without any problems.

If it's not too late, the answer is 1st January 1973, any vehicle registered after that date should use white/yellow refletive.

Last addition is correct. However, since in the 'old days' plates ran from August to July, you could probably get away with an early '73 car with B & W plates. 'L' reg of course ran from Aug 1972 to July 1973.
