Shot at by laser... doh!

I was on the M40 and there was a cop on the hard shoulder in a marked car. He had an LTI20-20 in his hand. I must of being doing a good 85 or so when he came into sight and the detector went nuts. Is it likely it was linked to a video system sat on his back shelf? I went back round but he was 5 miles down the round with having pulled a car onto the hard shoulder. Could he have just been looking for people doing 100+ or something ??? or is it more points for me ?
