Of course you lose both.

You have one licence upon which you may have various classes of vehicle. It's not the class that gets removed from a licence under a ban, you lose the whole thing.

I've had a full motorcycle licence for about 12 months and a car licence for 30+ years. If I collected 6 points on the bike as a "new rider" would I loose the right to drive my car and have to take both a bike and car test again? I haven't got any points just a hypothectical question.

No, probationary period only counts for first licence.

I also feel agrieved that after paying for 2 sets of lessons and sitting 2 tests I only get one licence. I always ride sensibly on the bike, have been know to exceed the speed limit in the car.

I dont think this is true you know, although im not certain, probation on first license I believe it is covered by both licenses, but this was what i was eventually getting at, surely this is unfair if you have a spotless history on one license, why are they both taken away? makes no sense.

so in your case, if you get 6 points on the bike, you will loose car license also regardless of having it for 30 years. this is what I believe ?

anyone know more about this?

You only have one license. Passing your bike test just gives you another catagory of vehicles you are allowed to drive/ride.

Probationary period only applies to first licence.

As Rsv states, once disqualified they take away your Licence with all the various groups therein. You no longer have a Licence so cannot legally drive on a road or be Insured to do so (unless Policy states otherwise).

But there was a guy on here who lost his licence. He'd had a car licence for xx years, then added bike, got 6 points and lost his licence. Everyone seemed to agree it was wrong, but the rules/law are badly worded.

Something I've wondered. If you are disqualified and required to retest, is this in ALL categories? If it was and you were an HGV driver then it could cost LOADS.

As I understand it the disqualification until test taken, the Driving Licence is taken away and a Provisional Licence has to be obtained and conditions that that entails abided by.

The disqualification is only ended when a test is passed and that evidence is given to Sec of State that the person disqualified has passed the test in question since the order was made.

A disqualification shall only be deemed to have expired in relation to vehicles of such classes as may be prescribed in relation to the test passed. eg Car test will not remove disqualification for motor cycle licence if held previously.

So summing up;

If I collect 6 points say for speeding on the bike I loose my entitlement to drive a car as well?

What if I collect 6 points speeding in the car?

I have to take a car and bike test to remove the disqualification?

I have a class 1 HGV entitlement which I hven't used for 10 years will I have to re-take an HGV test again to?

This is getting complicated

It is in fact simple Outrider.

If you are on 9 points, matters not whether on bike or car, if flashed then you will be taken to Court because 3 more points (min) will take you to 12 (in three years) and a 6 months disqualification. They take your Licence off you so you no longer have one so cannot drive at all, any vehicle on a road.

Or, even on a first case of speeding where the speed was such that a Court case has to take place then Mags have discretionary power to disqualify. If they do, Licence goes down swanee until time up when you are allowed all your entitlements to drive again.

What the later threads above have been about is where the Court, in their wisdom and generally when dealing with silver tops like I, disqualify a person until such time as they take a test. Again the Licence is taken away and in order for a person to drive and to take a test a Provisional licence has to be taken out - so back to square one.
