Gatso Camera's
Discussion
Can someone tell me why dorset CC think to put Gatso lines on the opposide side of the carrigeway and people have to anchor up upon seing the lines.
I feel like stopping the crusty infront and telling them "you cant get nicked front on from a Gatso"
they create mor accidents by slowing down to 20 mph than the camera was desgined for in the first place.
They don't seem to do it in London.
Why down here?????
It will probaly flash but that is the Dopler Radar effect I think?? The 2nd flash always goes off when you are level with the Gatso.
Just to Claify that Truvelo camera's can nick front on so Don't try to apply the above rule to these.

bmw320ci said:You missed the trick. They create accident blackspots which will in turn justify placement of a cameras. The lines are already painted so it makes the installation easier for them!

It is a way of registering your disaproval of scam cans and scam vans, it was discussed at lenth in safespeed forum as a good way to show utter contempt for scam vans in particular, because if you spot it and immedeatly slow to 10mph under posted speed limit, you slow ALL traffic behind you! simple and effective, you cant be pulled for it, as you are driving at a safe(?) speed for conditions, It can ,if traffic density is dense enough cause a traffic jam, and guess what, thescammers disapear damn quick when that happens.
I used this at Weymouth today, a scam van parked at the bottom of lanehouse hill with very good effect,

Most people don't know that Gatso's are not approved for front use. Therefore they believe that they can be done on the other side of the road as well.
In this way, the safety benefits of the Gatso can be applied in both directions rather than just one. It delivers twice the benefit for little extra cost. You should be grateful for the thoughtfulness of the Scamera partnership in taking this farsighted approach.
Sorry, feeling a little sarcastic today.

I question this also with Kent and Medway Scamera:
I parphase"
The reason why lines are painted on both sides of the road even if the Gatso cannot be turned around IE: its on the side of the road and not in the center, is to ensure drivers do not move to the wrong side of the road to avoid the lines being used as a secondary check of their speed."
