I was looking at this site and noticed the larger throttle bodies they have for sale www.moto-build.com/new-products.html

There are details further down the page that say "If ever there was a product you could just bolt on to improve your cars performance, then this it! Brand new large diameter Alloy throttle body, complete with new petentiometer [what the blazes is that?], designed for easy DIY fitment. Not only will it give up to another 7bhp..."

Have any of you bought and fitted one of these? If so, any good? Is it worth it? Would you recommend it?

(I haven't made any other upgrades to my recently purchased MK1 yet, and I'm trying to get an idea of where to spend my upgrade pennies - this, as you gather, caught my eye) Thanks people - I'm all ears

Trophy 160 body? If so seems to rev freer, no noticeable change in performance, less chance of the body overheating and causing the throttle to stick, open and a doddle to fit apart from the two 8mm bolts underneath.

If Bonce is around he had the web page with the step by step instructions unless the AOL page is the same.

[Ding!] You called?

It would be bad form of me to copy and paste the instructions here, so you should take a look at the guide felix7 is referring: www.elise-faq.info/content/engine/index.php

Throttle Body section is halfway down the page.

Do we call you Genie instead?

Haydon's in Sailsbury have recruited Dave Minter to answer technical queries, perhaps he could help (or with any general query, but would probably help if you were a customer), I think the e-mail is david.minter@haydoncars.co.uk.

Haydons seem very proactive, have been impressed by their latest news letter, they also offer a Priviledge Card which entitles you to a 10% discount for being a regular customer.

They have also requested Lotus approval to be an independant servicing garage, apparently they were turned down, it appears Dave Minters qualies were not high enough, maybe you have to be God??

Thanks for the advice - I had the Trophy 160 throttle body and a K&N 57i air induction kit fitted this weekend. Wonderful!

They're the first tentative steps I've taken in gently 'tweaking' the engine and I'm absolutely delighted. I really hadn't thought that the difference would be as significant as it was. The sound of the engine is a delight and the response much snappier.

The 200 mile trip I did yesterday was sheer heaven!

I used QED for my engine modifications. They were exceptionally helpfull and achieved a couple of extra horses As my name suggests

I would be somewhat carefull about believing any claims of increased power from a 160 throttle body on an engine with a basically standard head . . . Recent rolling road tests showed it to increase the power by at maximum 1bhp on a number of cars (before and after testing) . . . which is perhaps not surprising considering it does nothing to increase the volumetric efficiency of the engine . . . It seems that unless your engine is significantly modified it's only purpose is to replace the cr*ppy standard plastic throttle body, which often sticks . . .

oh sorry - wait a sec - I'm not for a minute suggesting that there's all of a sudden a miraculous extra 7bhp or so under the bonnet. That's for the guys with rolling roads to debate.

I'm simply saying I'm chuffed to bits with the combined K&N and Trophy 160. It was like driving home a different car. But I coudn't say how the Trophy 160 alone would affect the engine.

I'm by no means qualified. Just an excitable new owner who's an example of one guy who thinks it may be just be worth it!

Sure thing, not what I intended . . . If you're happy hen you're happy ;-)

For sure it gives a more rapid throttle response, and I guess with your filter a better noise too ;-) and that perception is far more valuable than a small bhp increase . . . and lots of things are more about perception than cold figures . . .

There is some advertising about that would suggest somewhat over optomistic claims about bolt on bhp increases . . . and I thought it only fair to point out that it's been demonstrated that isn't, generally, the case . . .
