I am a UK-based PH-er hoping to spend 3 - 4 weeks next summer on a driving holiday in the States.

Ideally I would like to hire a Mustang convertible, or similar at one west coast airport and then drop it off on the east coast 3 weeks and 6000 miles later.

I have tried an internet search with limited success - can PH-ers on the other side of the pond help?

It doesn't need to be a Stang, but a good driver's car (ideally a manual box) is essential, convertible is desirable, no need for 4 seats.

Try Googling "car rental corvette" and type in the nearest big city to where you are going to visit. If you're not interested in a Corvette, type in Mustang, or Viper, Cadillac XLR or whatever.

This might help: www.autothing.com/P-Support/psupport-exoticautorentals.htm

You may have to pay considerably more to rent "one-way" than to bring the car back to where you got it.

If any company rents high-performance cars with manual transmissions in the States, I have never heard of them. To do the routing you want, you would have to use a national company, I think.

Good luck anyway!

Hi,

If you find one can you please let me know, just post the details in here. Im looking to do exactly the same thing and would rather not be stuck in a worldbox for 5000 miles! especially if I have to drive slow.

Thanks

I appreciate that this resonse is a couple of years late but the world has moved on a bit and this informationmay be of use to others as well.

There is now a website that lists classic and spocrts car hire companies around the world - Classic Car Hire World. It can either be searched by country or marque and make. So if you want a Mustang anywhere click on http://www.classiccarhireworld.com/contentok.php?i... and it will produce a list of the cars available.
