Has anyone driven on the Long Cross track (near Chertsey in Surrey) as I am soon to do a Ride Drive course element there and am keen to learn more.

I've done a couple of sprints there. It's in two parts, essentially - a long curving, banked section which can be very fast if you've the balls to get up against the concrete wall on the outside and ... The Snake. This used to be the MoD's Alpine handling course and consists of a series of yumps, bends, adverse cambers, tightening corners and about every scary thing you can think of. It's narrow, there's *no* runoff and gigantic trees both sides of the track. if it's wet, it stays wet under the trees. You should be able to get airborne over the yumps if you're pressing on... It's the only place I've been where a marshall does a walk-round; like he says "They call it The Snake because it bites." Oh, and stay off the golf course.

On the other hand, I enjoyed it enormously!

2nd what Zumbruk said, I did my my first sprint there, a few weeks after speaking to a mate who used to rallycross there and it really is an awesome (frightening) place.
The snake twists and turns through the trees but there is one particular humpy bit that will have you scraping your stomach off of the roof lining, top tip is to get the roof off if possible, it will save on the cleaning bill. The banked section crosses a railway track which does not do the composure the world of good. There are so many possibilities of layout though, the track twists and turns in and out of the woods all over the place.
It really is a scary place.......... but dont be frightened, go and make the most of it, the place has more character per yard than the housing estate that it is destined to be could ever dream of. I cant wait to go back again

Having worked there previously I can confirm everything that has been said. The snake is excellent and I believe it is where the original Batman (Michael Keaton/Kim Basinger) was filmed when the car drove toward the batcave..... A lot of filming used to be done there for numerous films and adverts.

I remember a Macca F1 went round the circuit in 57 seconds from a standing start... not bad for a 2 mile track with a 70mph speed limit

Have fun though.......
