I was a bit bored at work today, so bought a car from ebay.

I'm now the proud owner of a completely standard mk2 1.8 Golf Gti 8v 5 door. It's done 95k miles, 3 owners, a months tax and MOT and cost me the princely sum of £250.

I know a 3dr 16v would have perhaps been a better buy for the purpose, but this was a bargin so I bought it.

A mate has decided to go halves on it with me. We now need to decide what we're going to do to make it go faster. We've got lots of ideas, but what would you all recomend?

Don't you want to make sure it actually works first

First priority would be to get it serviced and get a new timing belt. After that I'd be looking to get some decent tyres, upgrade the brakes and possibly fit an induction kit for a few extra bhp.

If it's a pure track car then gutting the interior should remove a bit of weight.

Currently looking to do some (if not all) of the above with my new Mk1 MR2 in preparation for a few trackdays next year
