Good new afoot. After all the doom about poor resale prices, I have evidence of a revival.

I wondered if they'd put the extra "1" in front of the price by mistake.

Everyone say buy on condition..........

So if this is in as excellent condition as it states (no reason to think otherwise)
I'm sure it would cost more to bring an average car up to this condition.

I'd love to think that you're right, but let's see if they sell first!

And another:

www.pistonheads.com/sales/57638.htm

this one might be a tad optimistic, but Not that many about, 4.5's in 2003, just need to compare with a good 200-2002 one to see if the premium is worth it for the new car. Personally i would imagine you could find a car in as good as condition for 5k less

I'm sure they'd be at a fantastic price ~50k

Personally I think this one looks like a gem, whoever buys this obviously has extremely good taste. Everyone knows red ones are faster!

I don`t know how you can say that. mine is a 99 car with 16k, I've had it over 3 years and apart from a set of tyres and regular servicing I`ve had no problems.

Probably just jinked myself now though!

99 car = 6 years old.
16k = ~2600 miles / year

95 car = 10 years old.
12k = ~1200 miles / year

Yes but either way they are both low mileage!

Lots of people on here recommend to people not to buy a car that has done very low mileage. But if it is good condition and seems well looked after (service history etc) then I don`t see a problem.

The problems with low mileage cars come from them being layed up for long periods and left.
When taking a car off road for a period of time it should still be started and moved (and run for at least 20 mins so condensation does not form and rot the exhaust) and anything that moves - moved! at least once a week, including silly things like the heater controls and the passenger door!. This will prevent rubber seals in the clutch, brakes and power steering drying out and leaking. It will prevent cables etc seizing. Also when running the engine turn the heater on full blast to keep the interior from getting damp.

The trick when buying a low mileage car is not to look at the car but to establish how its being treated by the previous owner by asking the right questions and looking at the service history - for instance replacement clutch master cylinder seals on a 10000 mile car would be worrying and an indication that it left dormant for long periods of time.

Also make sure it doesn't rest on the same point on the tyres each time as these will bulge and flatspot eventually.

Buy a low mileage well treated car and you get the best of both worlds.

As puffsorted said, you can (almost) have the best of both worlds. Realistically speaking 5000-6000 miles per annum is a nice number to be on the clock - assuming it's well cared for and serviced / maintained.

One of the biggest things I've seen on low milers are the fact that the oil seals harden and start to drip... not to mention that people drop to the 6000 mile service each year, rather than having the 12000 miler - as recommended by TVR.

low mileage is an indication of a problems to come. If you have driven yours throughout the year and used it mainly for long journeys then it'll probably be OK. The problem is that low mileage cars are likely to have spent months off the road, possibly the six months of winter. This is known to increase the likelihood of early failures. It also indicates the car could have been use primarily for short journeys. Worse still it could have been used mainly on track.

Average and high mileage cars are this mileage because they have been reliable and regularly used for lengthy journeys.

Low mileage tvr's can be a great buy.I've never subscribed to the theory that theyre just trouble to come.The last two v8's ive bought have been a great and very reliable pleasure to own,and both have been low mileage.Its true that they need to be used regulary,but this can be done easily without putting much on the mileage.The great benefit of low mileage is that its nearly new in terms of wear,and things like starters,alternaters,chassis corrosion,cracked headers,toasted wiring,tired engines are all very much in the distant future,rather than mid mileage cars being at the stage where anything could go wrong tomorrow as the wear is there.Its also great to experience what it must have been like to buy one of these cars when it was new,the fresh smell of the leather,unmarked and perfectly clean interiors etc..Ive bought both mid and low mileage cars now and its taught me a lot.I'll always go for the lowest mileage possible now,and as long as you check the car over properly,you should know weather its going to be a good one.Its pretty easy to tell if its been looked after properly,or left neglected.
To say that low mileage might mean its been tracked is pretty daft.Why the problem with tacked cars?I dont track mine,but it would never put me off buying one.It always comes back to how the previous owners have looked after them.Ive seen people drive theirs on the road and thought that i'd never buy theirs off them!!
