Bargin track day car??

As a novice with a budget, rather than throwing my TVR around the track I am looking for a cheap track day car, one that I will not be so worried about the Armco and expensive repair bills. Under PH classifieds this seems like an unbelievable bargain….. www.pistonheads.com/sales/57549.htm Apart from it’s age 1989 Why is it so cheap? Anyone any thoughts?
It seems to be all they are worth, add the cost of a trailer too if you don't have one. I looked at several ex race cars last year around the same price. They were all tatty or tired and testing them is a nightmare. Alright if you want a project but not if you're shopping for a toy. In the end I picked up a track day prepped road legal car. You might be lucky and find a genuine bargain but go into it with your eyes wide open.
I saw this car at the last Britcar race a few weeks ago. Looked pretty nippy for such an old car, and the price of £3k is a bargain, espacially when you consider that you're getting a spare car aswell!!!
One thing though, I think that due to the age of the car it might be outlawed by EERC pretty soon. AFAIK, there is an age limit of about 18 or 20 years, and that car must be close to that point.
Anything that laps Brands Indy in under 60 seconds is quick. As you say, a very quick trackday car, but be sure about what series it is eligible for before buying it as a race car.

As a cheap track day car its perfect. Very quick in the corners and reasonable on the straights for track day use. It is sensible money for a car of its age and it has plenty of spares, all the right track worthy bits and is frankly the cheapest worth having track car I've seen for ages.

European Endurance and Racing Club = EERC. They are the people who run the Britcar series. www.eerc.co.uk
That car's been on some of our trackdays - it's very well looked after and it's never given him any problems on the day. I know this because I have, very nosily, had a good shufty round it.
I reckon that's a good buy.

Good point Iguana, if I knew where they were I certainly wouldn't tell anyone and it would make my race season a hell of a lot cheaper!

Constructively, Circuit Driver ran a piece following their budget machinery trackday at Snett that featured a load of stuff under 5K including my wagon. Favoured were ex-race Van Diemen Multisports, two of which were for sale in the same issue for just over 4K. There is a company based near me that buys and completes kit and race projects to fixed budgets on the behalf of customers, relying on the host of 'nearly finished' efforts that languish in people's garages. The trick is sorting the good from bad. There are bargains, and buying a car that's had all the prep done, like that Honda is a good way of controlling costs.

Hi, Im the owner of the CRX for sale. A fully prepared race car with loads of spares at 3k YES it is a bargain. It has standard 125bhp engine, its not the fastest car out there but it makes up for it round the corners(56 sec lap at Brands). Very cheap to maintain £40 for a full set of race pads! This little car never fails to impress on the track and as for the tired comment go and look at Britcar website and see how many cars manage to last every race like the CRX. There has been a lot of intrest in the car, would make an excellent track day hire car too Melindi.
That CRX is an absolute bargin and if I had space Id buy it.
I bought a CRX for tracks days and sprints and its excellent fun. So much cheaper to modify than a TVR too because it means you do more of the work yourself.
I keep it road registered though because I have more fun taking it on country blasts than the TVR!!!
Not only that but trailering just makes it all the more expensive and even more space required.
If anyone finds out where all these cheap 7's are can you tell me too please!

Aah. See, I is only a poor little sprinter, so if it lasts longer than 90 seconds, then I start to get confused and tuckered out.
