Im looking to get into a used monaro VXR later this year, quick question do the cars come with HID headlights as standard or as an option?

Also is their any common problems with these cars to look out for when buying used?

Thanks

They are very reliable cars - don't think we've had ONE mechanical failure reported so far.

Afraid no HID lamps, although they do have the projector beam type, which are pretty good, once the factory set dip beam has been adjusted up slightly, (they come set too low for the uk)

There are huge gains to be had in all areas - engine - suspension - brakes by modding the Monaro. Standard brakes are probably biggest weakpoint.

All in all, fantasic cars!

Couple of niggles - electric seat fore and aft adjustment is sometimes a bit jerky due to intermittant microswitches. Dealer can fix this. Sometimes the mph guage goes a bit haywire in very cold weather, only happened once or twice on my car in 18 months. Some rear diff noise seems 'normal' different grades of oil can cure prob. The monaro has an unusual parking/handbrake system (its a lock up system). Don't ever think about using the handbrake whilst on the move - will break rear shoes in the parking brake! Obe very minor point - none of the factory fit radios have rds so you won't ever get the station name or traffic announcements (australian market does not use rds system) Best fit a new system as i did.

Actually I do believe that in aus you can have options like hid lights, sunroof, sat nav, more paint colours (and coloured interiors - I would love that!) Guess it's due to low vol imports speccing up individual cars for the uk would take too much time.

And now that it's gone out of production, you better get one quick!

Thanks for the repsonse, as I say would be looking for a used one later in the year, yeah id heard that they had stopped making them but theirs a good few months supply left yet?

They do seem to be sparse on the options from the dealers but as you have mentioned the aftermarket is doing very well, considering its not been out long then thats a good sign!

Just like my C70 the brakes are a major week point so thats the first thing to go. Will keep a check list of any niggly faults as you put it for when go to look at them, good news though on the mechanical side.

Dont want to dissapoint you as I think the Ro is a super car. The my C70 had better brakes than the Ro, never had fade in my C70. Have to say though very different animals totally different characteristics

Is this the Honda C70 we're talking about or the Volvo?

Heheheheheh got it in one mate as i said very different characteristics both rwd though

I had a Volvo C70. before the beast I do like my GT coupes .

Similar costs new! The Volvo was no where near as much fun but the finish was much better and equipment better spec .

More room in the back of the Monaro , I am told by my elderly relatives the Monaro is easier to get out of, also the Monaro boot (04 model) is much bigger, the golf bats go in sideways

Not drawing any comparisons at all between a C70 and a Monaro here! Theirs nothing to compare really, the C70 has terrible brakes as standard so im not sure on the comment of it having less fade than a Monaro?

Only thing the Volvo will better a VXR at is fuel consumption (even tho its a T5, avg mpg when being pushed 22mpg) and crash safety, hopefully wont crash and the Monaro wont be a daily driver so not too fussed on either!

Will be keeping the C70 though for winter use as its FWD and as mentioned safe, plus its quite good in the snow.

Curiosity only Brian....
Are Holden actually still making the Monaro this year or have they just made enough stock for HSV to keep making Coupe4's & GTO Coupes (VX-R's) for 2006. Also, are Holden still making 6.0 litre left hook's for the US or has this now shifted over to the land of the septic tanks? I may be wrong but I thought that no more 5.7l monaro's were coming out of the Elizabeth plant at all?
