I think it would be of great benefit to have a TRAVEL/HOTELS forum.

There always seems to be threads on locations and cities asking for advice from the collective?

True, although your other idea of a PHers gazeteer of hotels restaurants is one I was more excited about. With the Google Maps thing, I can create that fairly easily. I just need to hook it into the reviews section. Probably a couple of days work and it's on the to-do list.
