Does anyone have experience of claiming for damage to a vehicle due to defective road surfaces?
I have a tyre damaged and need of replacement, which means 2 tyres. I am looking at a minimum of £110.
It happened on Xmas Eve as i splashed through what I thought was a lane sized puddle but turned out to be a really bad pot hole, I am surpised it was only a tyre damaged such was the bang.
What are the chances of a succesful claim? Is it local authority or thr road maintnance company I should be looking to?

yeah get loads of photos, use normal film, digital sometimes gets thrown out as evidence, though i use digital in my reports - for court

if you tell them first they'll repair it and deny it, be prepared for a long fight, make sure you get the right location, they do have tolerances for defects, but claims are successful.

They may try "we only inspected last week therefore our inspection procedures are reasonable, we can't be everywhere", so ask for the inspection log, there are different types of inspection for different categories of road, ask anyway as you need to know when the highway was last inspected, they’ll stall you

good thing is you're within small claims values, so a summons via the online system often provokes action

Took advice from an insider and the details were similar to yours. Digital camera is all I have available but it is a good un. I will be taking loads of pics of the road in general as it is in a shocking state, it looks like a patchwork quilt and it is an A road.
Biggiest worry is safety of standing on the road to take a pic, it is a quiet road with bends and dips and most folks do not hang around on it.
