Is this correct??

I had a paper licence, surrendered it under a ban and now need a photocard one.

I have since changed address as well.

I have just talked to DVLA about getting a photocard one and was told its £50 is this correct??

I thought the upgrade for a paper copy was free or the change of address was a nominal charge and not £50.

Thought I would check on here first before relieving myself of a hard earned £50.

Cheers for any help.

Bloody good job I forgot to send the form back with the paper one for a photocard licence, just a month before the altercation, I would have been a little more peeved, than I am at the moment.

Can see why this turns some people into not bothering.... Get done, take licence off you, have to pay a resonable amount to get it back..... bollox to that, drive without knowing you only need it for a producer!!

Just for the record I will be paying and I hope they bloody well choke on it.......

It certainly does smell bad, they fined you for the original offence, cost you a fortune in public transport while disqual, and now want more to restore your licence to you. It can't cost anymore to replace it depending on the reason for that replacement, so it's just another fine. And then of course there's the increased insurance premiums....

Make the most of it, within a couple of years you will be handing over twice as much for your ID card to prove you are entitled to have a government jack boot up your a**e

Its just another stealth tax.

If it were me I would have rather had the additional £50 on top of my fine. At least then they would be being honest about it, and you would have the legal right to appeal.

I wonder how the DVLA explain the additional cost of about £35 more it costs to print a driving licence just because someone was banned...

If I was from say Iraq originally and I perhaps had a name with characters which were not standard, or my name did not fit in the gap properly and they had to make a special one up for me at least they would have slightly more reason to justify an additional cost over the standard.

BUT, if that were the case, this would be a national new story and proof of institutionalised racism. Someone who may have been banned perhaps doesnt matter!?
