We in the Isle of Man have enjoyed largely limit free roads for many years, however, the safety fascists are now trying to impose an all Island speed limit (either directly or through the back door by extending and further extending existing limits). Unless we let them know what we think they will succeed and events such as the world famous TT will die.

The latest attempt is to impose a 40mph limit on the Ballamodha Straight. This road is nearly 2 miles in a straight line and comfortably supports well in excess of 60mph in good conditions. The DOT have made absolutely no attempt to improve safety on this road - none whatsoever, so typically, speed is blamed for any accident.

The DOT have placed a public notice in the local papers of their intentions (they are required to do by law) and without any fanfare so that it hopefully goes unnoticed. Written objections (before 23 Jan) can be sent to

I think Mr Mansell and Mr Clarkson need to have a few stern words in ignorant ears.....

As an aside, does anyone know how road casualty rates compare with the UK? (not counting TT race/mad Sunday casualties).

Vicki, I know this might sound a bit silly but try and let a certain Messers J. Clarkson know of this. He has monster media clout and I think quite a few people may rally around the IoM as a result.

That's good thinking . As he's only an occasional resident he may not be aware.

They often film here for Top Gear, and I if they said something on TG it might make a difference.
