Just got my licence back from court - pled guilty to an 90 mph on a dual carriageway 70mph
I got an SP50 was expecting an SP30, I thought you got an SP50 for motorways which it was not

Do I make a fuss, does it matter to insurance companies etc

Can do. The real downer is SP60 "undefined" speeding offence, which insurance companies tend to load a lot more than SP30.

As to SP50 vs SP30, yes 50 is for motorways but I'm not sure if it also applies to NSL dual carriageways. My hunch would be that SP30 would be right.

No harm in quizzing them straight away anyway...

I got an SP30 for the same offence on a dual carriageway.

I would chase it up as it may make a difference to insurance, for example.

From memory I think the wrongful SP60's were given out because the brainbox applying the codes on peoples licences guessed this was for if you were done for speeding where the limit was 60!

If you are sure G Man that the DC was not Motorway then the classification they have given you is WRONG. It should be SP30 (Exceeding Statuatory speed limit on a public road.)

Not sure whether Insurance Co look more favourably on a SP50 than an SP30. You could of course write back to them and have them correct the error.

Dieselnut got an SP50 for doing over the limit in a 50mph, which was a single carriage way (one lane each way) country road... Never questioned it though...

It seems my above hearsay may have been correct then!

I have never known an insurance company to care which SP decoration is on a licence, as long as it is a fixed penalty type.

An MS90 has a large loading, issued for anyone not naming the driver, and being convicted as such...

A lot of the online quote systems make you pick the exact offence code, so they obviously *do* care to some extent.
There was a bit of a hoo-hah recently when it transpired that lots of folk had their policies loaded for SP60s that had been incorrectly applied instead of SP30s...

Hi I had this problem at the back end of last year in kent. it transpires that the camera partnerships had been putting everything through as an SP 60 and DVLA had queried it.
They now have had a directive to change them but will not do it unless you contact them.
