Does anyone know if the Holden Monaro has a Category 1 alarm system as standard. Mine is the 2002 and the insurnce company need proof as well !
Would Vauxhall be able to do this as they only imported them here from 2004 onwards or does anyone know of an alarm specialist who can help.
Cheers

I had this very same challenge with my 2005 5.7 litre
The alarm is not Cat 1 and will not be accepted by most insurers. Vauxhall will not give a certificate to define exactly what the alarm is, in any case it has to be a Thatcham approved for most insurers.
I solved the problem by getting Vauxhall to pay for the installation of an approved alarm by a Thatcham alarm installer.

The '05 VXR does not have an "approved" one.
However, a few alarm manufactures produce "upgrade" options which top-up the standard factory fit system to T1 whilst still retaining the arm/disarm via the key-fob.
Take a look here www.thatcham.org/security/index.jsp?page=75&c=cat2_1
FYI: Don't wont to post specific manufacturer details on a public forum, just in case

Vauxhall didn't get a Thatcham security rating for the Monaro as it would have cost too much due to the low amount of cars being imported to the UK. Any costs would have to be passed onto the customers, so our 30K CV8's could have been retailing for goodness knows how much! It would have cost a few hundred thousand pounds apparently to get the testing and approval done.
My insurance company wouldn't accept the factory one, so I went and had a full Cat 1 plus Tracker installed at the same time and presented them with the certificates. Now we're all happy bunnies
