Did anyone catch the Vine prog this lunchtime?

It seem that Surrey Prats are now handing out mobile cams to the "Martins of the Ever Decreased Circle variety!" as "£far too many people are killing 10 per day in Surrey villages...."

Funny .. I thought this was Shap.. Ings... M4....but no matter ... obscure Surrey village has higher horrid death rate than Midsomer Badger's Drifty place....und ist not Murder Most Lurid .. but all down to driver who ist "not local"....

So ... to cut this - they are going to give village yokel a most dodgy hand held camera und plan to prosecute driver who drive at 35 mph in village.....

The Surrey police office und one villager claim they do not continue "neighbourly pettiness over who make sandwiches for village Maypole dancer" (und I would say correct in observation that people slow for scam und speed up agaain after it... - but Cambridgeshire councillor recounted disaster of similar scheme in Cambridgeshie village where fisticuffs between villager resulted after two weeks with some arguing that "vigilante behaviour does not stop the danger" und they also found petty feuds resulted in some getting a warning letter...

Und the POLICEMAN - retired Stafordshire TRAFFIC COP phone into the prog und said that those operating speed cam in Village A were those the police copped speeding in village B....und in Lancs und Cumbria? We find the most vociferous locals ignore the 20 mph in Ambleside, Grasmere und other villages...

Nein.. ist not the way... ist POLICE job und we expect POLICE to be PROFESSIONAL und not sock puppets for Droned up Toned up puppet....

I foresee many problems with "continuity" of evidence, worthiness to "form an opinion", professionalism of use, impartiality, and many many more besides.

Hypocrites of the largest order!

They need to be banned from driving for their clear contradictory views on what is acceptable speed near your own home, and what you deem to be acceptable near anothers!

This will be the same scheme that I was invited to join (www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=232626)

As far as I know they didn't get any volunteers.

Hypocrisy is very common... many years ago (I worked in a council then) we used to get loads of letters about speeding through villages - out go cops to check. In Village B they stopped the councillor who had written in about village a. In village C they caught its own community council chairman who had asked them to go - the only speeder in the whole of that afternoon's exercise btw...

I used to get loads of letters from a particular councillor who was fervent about speeders. Just after I left the council, I moved house, to find that he was my new next door neighbour. Guess who drove fastest in and out of our street within inches of the parked cars and kiddies? Go on, bet you can't...

Are you concerned about speeding in your local area?

Often motorists who speed through residential neighbourhoods are unaware of the impact their actions have on other road users or the danger they cause. Community Speed Watch enables local people to get actively involved in road safety and helps to prompt drivers and motorcyclists to watch their speed and keep to the limit.

By working with the police and local authorities residents can identify problem areas and are given full support in setting up a Community Speed Watch scheme in their neighbourhood. Before going out on the streets volunteers are given full training on how to use speed detection equipment and how to monitor the speed of vehicles safely.

Volunteers capture the registration number of any speeding vehicles. The logs are sent to the police who then send out warning letters to the registered keepers explaining the dangers of speeding and the problems that it can cause to people living in the area. Persistent offenders who disregard the warning notices will be identified by the police who will take further action in the form of speed enforcement.

Community Speed Watch promotes close links to the police.

How do I set up a Community Speed Watch Scheme?

Locations for monitoring speed are selected from sites suggested by the community, based on their local knowledge of where speeding is a problem. Once the police and local agencies have agreed the location a scheme can be set up.

How many people are needed to set up a scheme?

The minimum number of volunteers needed for a scheme is six; each volunteer must be prepared to contribute one hour each week. Volunteers must be over the age of 18.

What training will I be given?

Volunteers will be given training by the police in the use of hand held speed detecting equipment and how to record the necessary data. Safety training will also be given.

How will passing motorists know what I am doing?

Volunteers will be issued with high visibility clothing and identity cards
Signs will be erected to notify motorists that they are entering a Community Speed Watch Area.

Who do I contact for more information?

Either visit the Cheshire Police website on www.cheshire.police.uk or contact your local road policing sergeant on 01244 350000.

just in case someone was interested
