Hi - still lurking on this forum

still thinking about buying a HSV GTS - seems to be a lot of them about at the moment all with 50k on the clock (wild variations in price as well)

is there a biggy service cost coming up or is the monaro just devaluing the GTS at the moment?

can anyone advise/point to where i can find servicing shedules and costs?

cheers

Speak to Mark at LSV, he has serviced numerous GTS/GTS-R's over the last 6 years

The LSV supercharged one is a steal IMHO, was £40k last year too

As you can see, apart from the expected wear and tear that you'd get with any vehicle these cars are pretty much bullet proof.

It's worth noting that the underside of the cars (mine at least) doesn't have any rust proofing by default. Mine's been done with Waxoyl and I've (touch wood) not had a problem with rust.

I'd recommend that you test drive one of these beasts or pop along to one of the meetings to see, hear, and talk to the owners. I promise you that once you've test driven one your wallet won't let you out of it unless you part with your cash

The "wild variations" in price are due to:
* Is it a VT1(5.0l V8 Iron Block) or a VT2 or VX(5.7l V8 Alloy Block)?
* Is it a GTS or a GTS-R
* Number of modifications. Some have had no mods, others have done STAGE1 (CAI, Exhaust, Remap) and the most expensive ones will be supercharged with all the goodies.

The engines are capable of significant modifications without any affect on reliability.

Hope this has been helpful.

cheers fellas

very informative.

i can see how it would be easy to let the dealer servicing slip - i wouldnt pay anyone else to do the servicing for just that level of stuff i'd do it myself and keep all the receipts :-)

need to get some insurance quotes next for modded and 'unmodded'

the car is to replace my 993 porsche - so has to be as reliable and cost effective (but cheaper to buy to free some money up)

It would be worth getting the car on a ramp and looking at the underside, some cars do have rust issues if they have not been treated. Also there may be signs of rust on the part of the rear arch covered by the door. Especially check the operation of the fog light as it is an after thought and prone to failure.

The other thing to look at is the steering rack boots, you can see by looking from underneath. There are occasions where they 'open' up due to heat, this is not good and has knock on consequences to the rack.

You need to ask the question if the car has been tracked. There are occasion where the steering fluid could boil and have a detrimental effect on the rack.

HSV GTS and GTS-R are great cars and are unvalued at the moment, so pick yourself up a bargain!!!!!

Hiya
Wild variation on condition and amounts spent on the cars - I can only vouch for the quality of mine.
