Medievil 2 looks fantastic, it's I'll have to update my PC to play it though unfortunatly.
I'm also spending waay too much time on Total Realism (but I'm missing my urban cohorts).

Ahh, never thought of that, though if there is one game worth upgrading for,it's the total war series...

Totally agree, so when they announce what spec it'll need I'll start looking around for a new PC, by then I imagine Vista will be about so PCIe graphics cards/motherboards will be common and a bit cheaper! My PC can barely manage Rome, so Medieval2 will be a good excuse to upgrade I think.

I too can't wait for this game, I have been addicted (in every sense of the word!) to Rome since I re-installed it a few weeks back!
I too have tried the Total realism mode, unfortunately, it doesn't work when Barbarian Invasion is installed also (no R-TW patches above 1.2 will work with T/R, and Barbarian Invasion ships with a 1.3 patch!)

I also bought Star Wars - Empire at War, thinking it would be Rome in the Star Wars universe, well, its not!, best way to describe is Total War ultra lite! I just ended up playing Rome again after an hour with the new Star Wars game!

Any release dates yet?

I will also be upgrading my PC for this game. I have not found any other RTS game that comes close to the Total War series. Looking forward to seeing some of the AI changes, and the graphics look totally immersive.

Play.com say late October, which for those interested, is a month after Elite IV which I'm hoping is a follow up to the original BBC game...

Just been looking at this, it says it needs a patched 1.2 version of Rome, can it then be upgraded to the later patches or does this have to stay as a seperate Rome installation?

No, it is VERY choosy about the patches required, it will only work with 1.2, any higher, wave goodbye to the whole of your Rome installation, as I found out!!! lol

Bear in mind that Total Relism takes even longer than the original Rome campaign to complete, so put aside a couple of years of your life before playing! Also, I found that when I pressed the end of turn icon, it took AGES to scroll through all the factions before I could play again, a bit annoying!

Can't wait for this

I bought a new computer specifically to play Rome Total war, so hopefully I should be able to play Medieval Total War as well.

FunkyNige - thanks for the potential release date info.

During my tour of the web, there seems to be a healthy modding community arround the total war franchise. Not sure how safe to download but there is some interesting stuff for those who want it / can not wait until October for a fix. Including: Punic Wars, Alexander campaigns, and even some Lord of the Ring / Fantasy mods.

Apparently there may also be another official expansion for 'Rome: Total War' possibly as a downloadable product only:

"A post to the Total War Center forums and the official Total War game forums broke news online of PC Gamer UK's offline story regarding a new expansion pack in the works at The Creative Assembly for Rome: Total War (review). According to the British mag, the new expansion will cover the conquests of the famed Greek leader, Alexander the Great, from Greece to India, complete with new battles and Indian elephants. The news of this expansion comes just a month after the developers announced their plans for Medieval 2: Total War, their next venture in this hugely successful strategy gaming series.

Excellent news!! Though its going to take me some time to play through RTR. I should be finished for the Medieval release in October though.

Indeed

It is worth getting the latest (March 2006) edition of PC Gamer, it has new about both the Alexander add on (apparently, it will only be available as a download!), and a great article on Medievil - Total War.

Are they spikes inthe graphics? I had this with an Nvidia card on Formula One Challenge I traced it back to the graphics driver. The latest one was not good but if I installed an earlier driver it worked.

Not quite sure if I'd call them spikes, just goes crazy all of a sudden. I'm just using the original drivers at the moment as I can't seem to find any decent ones for a 128MB Radeon 9600 pro. Don't really want to buy a new card as I'll be upgrading everything in 6 months.

Nige- Try here: www.ati.com/

Choose drivers and sofware button from the top right - all Radeon cards use the same(Catalyst) drivers. The latest for XP is 6.2.

It might also be worth using the Catalyst uninstaller program here:

Go to Drivers & Software/Utilities/Various/Catalyst-ATI Maintenance Utilities, you should now be at the CATALYST Uninstaller page. Download the cat-uninstaller.exe file.

I use this just to make sure all traces of previous drivers are uninstalled. The drop down menu on the left, under 'solve a problem' can also help with the uninstall process. Hope this is some help.

I had corruption like that on my Radeon 9800 Pro - turned out to be the memory (faulty) on the graphics card, and was just out of warranty too!
