I'm sorry but I have to say what a bloody great car this Monaro is.
I know we recently had a mild tete a tete with reference the dreaded M5 question but allow me to relent a tad.
I was at Weltmeister last night, having broken and enetered and was enjoying a good mooch, pilfering components and what not when I chanced upon a bright red example of the 5.7 litre variety.
Ungagging one of the staff for a quick resume, it seemed that the car had been modestly rewicked to around 400 bhp but more crucially, had benefitted from a truly stunning sports exhaust and some reworking of the boingey bits that cope with corners and stuff.
Sitting in it, I was once again reacquainted with those superbly comfortable but clamping armchairs and a generally effective ergonomic layout. Blipping the throttle, it all seemed so deliciouly suggestive of profoundly tall, road bourne jinx that the undiluted attraction of these damn things slapped me sharply, like a particularly damp, Dundee kipper: "You moron," it lambasted, "what in the name of Horlicks von Offelmann are you doing in that kraut crate when such bombastic, antipodean armoury sits idly by?"
To which I had little or no response, ever more so when the £16,000 selling price was suggested and rang a bell louder than Acheron's finest campanologist had 'ere chimed.
What ludicrous joy!
