I would have thought most of them were original fitment aerokits, as the price for putting them on later is pretty high. And anyway, each to their own. Spoilers on a 300bhp sports coupe is hardly the same as sticking M3 mirrors on a Citroen Saxo, is it?

Well i guess if a trader can buy a third party aero kit cheap and stick it on an old shitter and make it easier to sell on then its good business

Hmmm. I guess they were factory fit mostly as (previous poster said) they are really expenisve to retro fit.

I don't see any harm in it, as long as there is no GT3 badge That would b elike putting an M3 badge n a 316i (usually with a tiny hosepipe sized 'zorst!!!)

I must admit I do prefer the basic shape on a basic car (like mine!)

To be honest I looked at loads of 996s before I bought mine.

Got down to two.

1. Mine.
2. A 2000 W Silver 996C2 Tip with GT3 kit, wheels and sports exhaust (A1 5OUP)

Apart from the fact that the insurance hike was MASSIVE for (2) over (1), I did feel a bit like a fraud driving (2). You'd spend your whole life worrying in case you met a real one and got a pasting!!

I preferred the more subtle bodykit free dark colour at the end of the day. Each to their own though..

Nowt wrong with a GT3 spoiler kit, but it really shouts I want a GT3.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the traditional and iconic unspoilered 911.

From an aesthetic POV, the '3 looks the biz because of the spoilers + slammed suspension... not sure the lookalikes will have the suspension.

Ah, now that's a different question.() Most of them don't have the lowered suspension, so IMO, they look a bit too high and underwheeled, even when fitted with 18"s. I did think about an Aerokit for my 997 for a few moments, but can't get over the fussiness of the front PU. So, in answer to your question then, probably not.

When it is a c0ck awful bodykit and a funky looking spoiler just for the sake of looking funky...then yes it is pretty much the same.

I'm with you on this one 'suvi .. All IMHO of course , but the bog standard C2 is still one fantastic motor , and I would feel like I wasn't , like , being true to it if I felt the need to bling it on up.
From time to time I come across a gt3 fitted car here in Dublin , and I can't help feeling a sense of disappointment when I realise it's another 'skin deep' model.
Having said all that , I have a pal who's just got all the gt3 kit for his C2 ,it's keeping him happy , that's what counts in the end.

I looked at retro fitting a kit when I bought mine, very, very expensive. In my experience they don't add value, just seem to make the car sell quicker. I think the majority are factory fitted.

As for insurance very few companies considered it. Although one covered it without penalty as it was factory fitted, and therefore factory spec.

Ever since I can remember I've wanted a 911 Carrera. I love the looks of the GT3 kit, and wanted this when I got mine. I wouldn't want anyone thinking I'm a GT3 wannabe, thought they probably do. Carrera is what I wanted, and what I've got. I'm tempted to put NOT A GT3 badge on it.

The previous owner has put GT3 badges everywhere, they're coming off. Plus, the two very visible child seats in the back give it away.

It has been lowered, there's a pic on my profile, if anyone is interested.

I dont think the general public would even know the difference , its like saying having a 911 is being a Turbo wannabee

Its a styling thing i like them with and without .

Personally, I think the 996 looks much better with the GT3 kit.

Nothing to do with trying to make it look like a GT3, it's purely down to the fact that it looks better.

This is pure personal opinion here, and I'm probably going to be shot down for saying this on a Porsche forum, but I think that a standard, spoilerless 911(of any vintage) looks a bit like a beached whale!!

This is why I think the 1973 2.7RS and original Turbo look so good, and it’s the bodykit/spoilers of the 996 GT2 that make it the best looking Porsche ever..

Very true. Widebody 911s just don't do it for me, I don't aspire to a 911 Turbo, C4S, GT2, et al but I can understand why people do.

Most of my friends and family prefer the standard look, that's their choice.

Mind you people with Boxsters get called 911 wannabes.

Tonker, I'd have been interested in a Boxster if it wasn't for the fact my first Porsche had to be a 911, and I need four seats.

While you're here I'd like a trim

Hollywood, it's like having a GT3 kit, it looks like you've got a bit more than you have!

When are you getting the Boxster's replacement?

The reasons people do this I think are either

They want people to think they have a gt3
They prefer the look of the gt3
They want to sell there car quicker.

either way, so what? if thats what they want who am I to judge?

Ant.
P.S. I would buy a gt3 kitted car as opposed to a standard one, all things being equal.
