hi all i am selling my elise s1 soon which had been excellent, in the 20 months i have had it, nothing has gone wrong at all which is why i really want to stick to a lotus, but a few other cars have caught my eye. my question is what should i go for?

1. lotus exige- looks amazing and seens the best thing to upgrade to after my elise, i would go for the 190 upgrade, sports exhaust, race seats, etc

2. elise s2 190- do not know much about this car but i have heard it is faster than an exige as it is lighter. anyone know abit more about this car and sort of price it would be?

3. new clio v6- saw this in autocar a few months back and it looked a monster, brilliant, much improved on the current model, 255bhp instead of 230, to many mods to list over current one, but 0-60 in 5.5

4. tvr tuscan- love the looks, power, and sound but am put off my the runnning costs,{servicing, mpg, etc}
also that a lot of earier models have had engine problems and had to go back to blackpool for 3 or 4 weeks. but you can get a £48ooo supercar for £25-28k seems worth all the hassle.

so which one should i go for, i will be using the car everyday, and mainly for roads use, but i dont car about comfort or noise to much i just want to fast flashy car for the road.

If you want reliability I'd avoid the Renault and stick to TVR/Lotus. If you just want more speed I'd consider tuning your S1 as it seems to be a goodun.

I think the Exige clamshells and roof will fit on a base Elise chassis...

have you driven an exige .... ?

If not get down to a dealer and drive one - great grip and brilliant track tool. very noisey, hot and race car feeling. downside is practicality etc
vhpd head needs high revs small torque (by comparison to the tiv)

Clio - evo loved it - i haven't driven it so no idea

s2 190 - custom built for you sir - 33k though ! (depend on spec) - serious track weapon and soft top

won't comment on the tiv - others with more experience will - beautiful cars - running costs look scary

lovely choices

I have an Exige - would not swap it for anything in similar or double price bracket - use it whenever I can - yep its cramped, hot, noisy, lumpy in traffic and miss bein able to have top off , but what a hoot to drive , performance more than enough , handling is phenomenal . Owned 13 Lotus (still own 3 of the monsters ), 2 Ferraris (the money I chucked at them - never again!)over years but never, ever owned a car that generates such a reaction as Exige . Trackdays are a must tho'..

Id go for a second hand S2 Sports Tourer for around £20K with about 6k miles on it and spend £14K on my own engine/suspension mods. You could have 250bhp and the same suspension/wheel/tyre set up as a Sport190 for that :-)

not selling it just yet, have to wait a few months to get some money together to afford whick ever car i get. but here is the spec anyway:

98 r-reg
36000 miles
silver with matching hard top
brand new navy blue soft top
£600 cd system
full history

would probably want around £13000 for her.

again this car has been perfect, have not had to spend any money on it at all, except 2 new rear tyres,
used everyday and never misses a beat.
only selling her to trade up to the exige, or maybe a clio v6, or maybe a tuscan ohh i dont know.

If you've had an elise, you'll probably go for the exige - or if your less sensible go for the tuscan

but if your looking at the v6 clio don't forget about the alfa romeo 147 gta (3 litre 4 seat hatch back) - classy alfa looks but not sure if thier in the uk yet

Don't get the Renault V6 supposed to be pants, the interiors pants, facelifted after about 18 months so depreciation will be affected and supposed to handle like pants - even worse after stepping out of an Elise. More than likely there will be a new Clio in the next 12-18 months a la new megane - so the V6 will date rapidly, if you are planning to keep it for so long. TVR's and high performance Elise's just make sure you have a large wallet.

It is a problem though, where next after an Elise? Porsche Boxter (S only) 911 etc - but it's a Porsche and people assume that you are something other than an enthusiast.

just had a first close-up look at an s2.

this car looks finished ( unlike the s1 i looked at in the same garage 3 years ago, that they had for 3k over book, which was hanging - sorry ).

it really did look like a proper car built by people who do it for a living. fit and finish looked a million miles better. i'll just have to blag a test....

Hello Chimbert, you got lost too eh.
I was in Formula 1 before the Christmas, just looking you understand, and thought the same about the new Elise. So much better than than the S1. Still don't think I could use it everyday like i do the Chimaera though.

the exige if you can living without the roof off, otherwise what bogie is suggesting sounds like a cracking idea - and you should have money left over for track days & training.
