Spent the past 12 weeks building my new car up for the upcoming D1 drift series, rollcage, seats, stripped out, lightweighted (still weighs 1300kg) coilovers, modified rack & suspension for 45 degs of lock, diff, hydraulic handbrake, 6 point harnesses, fire system, electric cut outs, engines been boosted, sorting out sponsorhsip, local press releases etc etc. I'm glad to say its finished at last!. A trip to Vixpy's dyno this week gave it a good bill of health so I know it's not going to implode & there is room for more tweakage to come A test session at Lydd on Tuesday confirmed she's more than up to the job of sideways on the lockstops

For those who don't visit the Japchat forum, no cheating!! guesses on what it is accepted, I gaurantee you've never seen one before!

Expect to see this beasty cutting it at www.d1gb.co.uk

It was acting as my temporary sun visor officer

Had to remove the visors to fit the cage. And I'd had the bumper off that day to remove some more lard from beneath

Great car there! Even went and had a look on the website. Funny being able to put a face to a name on here!

(I don't want to get you into trouble though, and hopefully ted ain't looking, but there was no PH link on the links page. If you are lucky he won't hunt you down and feed you to the pigs! )

Think its a Cefiro or a Cedric? Its something of the Prince moniker I reckon, and therefore more than likely to come with a name like a pensioner?

Very retro. I like it.

Fantastic car control CPT, car looks retro cool

what would be your recomendation for an easy to find £2-3k drift car here in teh UK? 200sx?

will be joining you again at some point this year for another go at it (in something a little more appropriate though)

keep up the good work.......

Cheers

Yes a 200sx of any sort is an easy find & easy to mod with off the shelf drift goodies (unlike mine)

Off to Donny shortly for the weekend tenting it aaaarrrgghh

It's a early (Z2?) series Toyota Soarer, I assume with one of the turbo sixes found in that species, probably a 1GGTE I suppose. Not uncommon as a cheap drift car back home but you don't see them here in the UK as much.

1300kgs isn't bad, thats Porker GT3 territory, and with the captains drifting skills should be in with a good shot, the drift crowd loves a different car from the typical ones

What kind of changes do you make to the suspension, spring rates wheels and camber/castor in order to make it drift like that, do you use special hard tyres ?

I have seen the japanese drift cars with huge levels of camber, but I can't see much on that vid ( pretty low resolution though )

its running 4degs camber and 10deg castor up frront which gives a nice castor wheel effect to the steering, so the fronts stay pointing in the original direction of travel if that makes sense

ill be runnning 235 rear tyres and no they are not crappy hard tyes, ideally soft sticky stuff that helps you get a lot more speed which you use to overload the tyres initially. you need the speed you see.

its set up much like a fast track car, with few mods to suit drifTing, its demonly quick on the track too.

Well the old drifty bus served me well D1 GB Licencing event at Donnington this weekend

We now have a Full D1 GB licence
Not many full national licences handed out & only a few provisional ones too, the course was really difficult to master & very technical from an apex clipping & line point of view & Mr Kazama was been being very specific with what he wanted us to do, clipping the right apexes within a few inches was demanded & big speed for the early entries.

Course ran backwads up the the Melbourne Loop, then back onto the main circuit.

Great fun giving it jonny large potatotes down through goddards (?) onto the main straight

Some stonking pics once again from Ross at doristars
