Got spotted yesterday, unfortunately not by a pistonheader but a not so funny traffic cop.Out in the beast, just taking it for a gentle hoon after a busy day.The car was looking great, newly cleaned and pampered,My crime ,it's a 400se with a plate that says so.Don't get me wrong it was a fair cop in that sense ,a reg offence, summit bout numbers slightly out of place enhancing how the plate reads, hmmmm. It was not the fact that I was stopped legitimately for an offence, but the manner of this individual.
Get this he said it was an offence and the DVLA took a dim view,OK ,While talking AT me through my car window I told him thats how I bought the car, which is exactly how it was.He looked at me and his manner changed ,he had said that I could stay in my car and know he is asking me to step into his,he then proceeded to issue me with a proof of docs while trying to be funny and condersending at the same time ,does it work,no is the answer to that.He went from trying to be funny to realising that I was not the kind of person he thought I was, while pulled up next to me at the lights.I produced my docs later and the desk person agreed with me that maybe ,just maybe his approach was wrong, confirming that it is a judgement call made my the officer at the time .
I work hard and play hard and one of the benefits has been the purchase of my baby.My biggest regret is that I STILL have not been spotted by a pistonheader and when I will the fab plate will still be fab but not as impressive as it was ,I realise the police have a job to do but when you see me and my plate you will understand why I am at 08.30 airing my view.
Now today Im off to find a nice MOT man to stamp my little ticket that will once again make me a "law abidding ,non mugging ,non stealing, non rapeing, non hooligan, non any deserving crime you can think of that actually warrants a posssible condersending run in with the old law ,polltax paying chap my dear old mum brought me upto be.

Sooo.... you're running with an illegal plate, got pulled, took the piss with a poor excuse and then you seem annoyed at his "bad" attitude?

C'mon, I'm not a big fan of trafpol (was tucked up for 6 points by the M5 boys) but I've been in the same situation with a tiny plate on my Griff and got a much better result: told him I'd been tracking it, smaller plate for better cooling, forgot to change it back to full size one which is in the boot. Made me fit it there and then and let me go on my way.

Plod are human. Treat them with some respect and you'll get some in return.

Pay the fine, stop moaning, carry a legal plate in the boot.

Amazing! You took the piss, you didn't get fined and STILL you're not happy.

Sell the plate... fit some Nitrons....THAT should put a smile on your face.

Actually now I have fished the plates out, they don't look that bad .I stated in my thread I wasn't bothered about being pulled,it's a fair cop was gona happen sooner or later.Just the attitude ,I drive 40 to 50 k a year for work in a not so impressive car,so am wary and careful of what I do,not even one to complain normally but just felt I wasn't treated or spoken to correctly.Any other path of life and it could have been construed as offensive.I have nothing against the police, tough job,but in this case I can see why some people have.
This car puts a massive smile on my face all the time even when I am nowhere near it,havent stopped smiling since I got it if truth be told, your idea steps inline with my SOX mates ,if they had their way the car would have twin torbo's 18 " wheels and god knows what by now.

Sorry to hear that but some will have a personal distaste for specific offences. I must confess that mis-spaced plates tend to be one of mine as are any form of tarted up plate although I don't actually mind small plates. However, as you say, a fair cop is a fair cop. Some trafpol do have poor attitudes but a lot depends on the time of day, whether they've just had to scrape someone off the tarmac and so forth. It's not like everyone doesn't have off-days. For all you know, he may have been told that morning by his all knowing superiors that he had to pull every illegal plate as part of a new drive and he may have thought he had better things to do. LOL.

I've had a completely legal front plate for 12 months, thing is, it's screwed to my garage wall and not the Griff!! Not been pulled by the FUN NAZI'S yet, nor have there SCAMERAS caught me. I think i'd settle for a ticking off and a 40 quid fine for no plate, rather than the 60 quid and 3points for "accidentily" speeding!!!
DON'T FORGET THE EASTER MEET. 11am MONDAY, CARDIFF GATE SERVICES. ( reg. plates optional)

Since November 2005 I've been pulled over 8 times! I don't have a front plate on my Atom and they have noticed but not once booked or even told off - they simply wanted to chat about the car

Sorry to disappoint, I don't even know what a SOX is.

Nitrons are the preferred weapon of choice by TVR owners in the know, not some sort of MaxMuppet lowering add-on. You've been hanging around with SOX people too long.

I checked out your theory on Nitrons in TVR,s ,your right modern tvr people in the know but not for anything as old as a wedge, looking at the forums it seems that later tvr's can use them and a few race prep'd wedges ,but the normal suspension setup of a wedge will not take them. All other tvr's that can, swear by them.
SXoc ,Nissan SX people , I have spent to much time with one over the years.

I think the problem is that the wedge suspension flexes in so many different ways that the Nitron low compliance bushes and rod end bearings can run out of travel and start putting bending loads on the rods. It may be possible to work around this if you know what you are doing, but it is not just a simple bolt-on jobbie as it is for the twin wishbone setup used on the later cars.
