Don't drive it. Get it trailered to your prefered dealer / indie.
Could be serious, may not be - GET IT CHECKED AND DON'T TAKE CHANCES!!!

...or do you want hear there's a magic button under the dash that will make it go away?

Sorry for the sarcasm mate- too much vino and the kids have had me awake for 3 nights.....

Paul Hi,

As Nelly said, best not drive it any more. Till the fault is found. It's a strange one though Neill, no knocking or tapping at idle, then under slight load, there is a knocking rather than the usual "tapping a spanner on the cover" sound. We took the plug cover off to check it wasnt a loose plug on Sunday, and I nearly got a socket stuck down the plug recess, and took 10 mins fumbling about trying to get it out. All the plugs were tight so ruled that out. Its not down on power either.

If it was a big or little end, then surely the knock would be constant even at tickover.
If the chain came loose, I wonder if it would swing enough to make the noise.

Other things that could have been overlooked would be ancillaries. Air conditioning pump?

AA man wasnt much help "that sounds expensive". Probably not in this case, with a bit of luck. Certainly not top end noises I have heard, either worn fingers, or throwing a shim.

Keep us all up to date! Give me a ring if you want to let off steam you have my number.

I would trust both nelly and justin on this one, from listening to it and /i was not at my best with a hangover (NOT) it was play from either your cam or your crank. It was definatley a journel wear sound in my opinion. Sorry to be a bummer, get it looked at do not take it by its own fuel anywhere.

I am quite confident it was more top then bottom so wont be too scary cost wise, let me know what the guys think that look at it! I might just know someone who could make it better (then before i mean)?

edit: I feel a right arse getting you to come now and i was........you know not firing on all my cylinders.

Dont spend any dosh before talking with me Paul you got my no.

Paul - see how much its gonna cost - if its gonna be a few G and your not covered
for all of it i would take back to dealer and get your money back - you can only have had the car a few days !!!!!! + your exhaust fell off ?!

my Tuscan is still avaliable at the Marlborough if you want it - but i am only thinking
of moving it again as a cool SAG has caught my eye

Anyway good luck with the fix - hope you are a patient chap.

Cheers Tim , i'll see how it turns out.

Inspection has revealed Big end bearings and main bearings have gone due to oil starvation. (although oil pressure seemed normal)

has any one had any experience of this?

thanks

Apparently the TVR S6 is/was ill equipped to deliver the right amount of oil to the engine due to the decision not to include the two oil feeds to the head on the exhaust side.
On Al Mellings designs there were four feeds - the S6 engine has two. I suspect you won't be alone. If the head doesn't give first, then something else will. Sorry to hear about this. Speak to Dave at Autocraft it you want an opinion on what can be done. TVR Power and Austec are also options that people recommend here.

I took my Tuscan for a service a Topcats Indy race team. I'd been careful to always top up the oil and monitor the pressure. When Warren opened it up, he rang me to tell me that there was hardly any oil in the engine. I said that it was full to the mark before I drove it to him. Where did six litres of Mobil 1 go? Straight out of the exhaust pipe? I think what he was saying was that hardly any oil was getting to certain parts of the engine including the bearings.

Might be something simple (and cheaper!) like your exhaust shielding/brackets needing to be adjusted?
