I have claimed my first v8 Mercedes today, and in a way you would not believe.
Was coming out of london, on the way back up north, and on the A4. Was at a set of lights and this dude in a Merc pulled up beside me. Wasn't too worried, cause knew there was no way in hell I was going to beat him off the lights, plus it was pretty wet as well, with a shower of rain just coming through.

Anyhow, drove off the lights giving it a little, but not too much didn't want to give him an impression that I was going to race him. Anyhow, it was a 40 mile an hour zone, so I dropped off at about 45. This dude would have been probably at this stage about 40 metres ahead. The first thing I noticed was a big cloud of steam, look over and there is a big bastard overhead lightpost coming down right in front of me. Tell you what, bloody lucky got the HSV brakes on my car, cause would have been toast otherwise. This guy, had obviously changed gears planted his foot lost traction and went head into the light post. Talk about a mess. Went over to him to make sure he was ok, and he had pretty much just gotten out of the car when I went over. Made sure he was alright, he was a bit shocked, but otherwise ok. Said dude, wasn't gonna race ya, and well, that is probably the last time you are gonna want to take on a holden. Anyhow, all very close shave today, light post landed about half a meter in front of the car. Made an absolute mess of his car, it bent the light post like it was made of out paper, and he ended up about 50 meters further down the road. Anyhow, said dude, I am out of here..and left.

Wait a month or so & go back and put a Holden sticker on the light post & a bunch of flowers and a Merc badge at the bottom

Does that mean you have now "Seen the Light"

Glad all (human) parties involved are unscathed...

on the subject of crashes I came across a real nasty one the other week where a girl had lost control of her new astra, left the road and knocked a tree down which then fell across the road. Says a lot for the improvements to safety in modern cars and the astra in particular that she walked out of it with not a mark on her - badly shaken and no doubt heavily bruised from the seatbelt but otherwise unhurt. I was one of the first cars on the scene and really wasnt sure what I'd find when I got out to help.

Friend at work had an accident last time he bought a new car - refuses to ever do so again. He was driving in a storm shortly after getting the car and had his young son in the passenger seat when a tree fell on top of them cutting the car into 3 pieces - the section they were in was the only one not crushed.

Guess what I'm saying is that no matter how you drive if its your time then there's nothing you can do about it and a lot is down to nothing more than luck. Guess this time your luck was in.
