Booked on a day with Don Palmer in early May, Looking forward to hooning around with loads of run off.

How strick is the noise level (i believe it is 87db) and what is the surface like? i am a bit concerned over stone chipping my pride and joy.

Anybody been on the course?

Cheers

Barry

This may well tell you all you need to know about the noise limits.

The surface is quite coarse and there are some stones which can cause the odd chip or two, but it wouldn't ever prevent me from driving there.

Hope that helps.

I would suggest running tank tape across the front of the car!

Oh, by the way, don't let an "instructor" drive the car, the one that drove mine blew the motor and tried desperatly not to notice it was on seven cylinders, even when i pointed out!

We use Bruntingthorpe alot for our open days and we've also been on 2 Don Palmer days so...

As others have said the surface is rough with quite a large amount of debris which will cause stone chips if you follow another car too closely. The nature of the work that you will be doing with Don also means that tyre wear will be an issue. You haven't mentioned what you are actually doing but assuming it's Don's creative car control stuff then you will be based at the far end of the long straight and most of the day will be spent driving around (and over!) various cone configurations as you become familiar with the concept of the "limit" and something else which I'll leave Don to tell you.

As for the day itself you will have fun and almost certainly will come away with greatly increased ability. Don's coaching style isn't to every ones taste but it does work. He will also demonstrate just what is possible and I'm pretty certain that you will not fail to be impressed.

If you do end up driving around the track then basically it's in 2 configurations; 1 with the very long long straight and 1 with the very long straight cut down with a fairly nice transition into it through a sort of chicane. Be wary of the speed diminishing effects of Bruntingthorpe's width and flatness - you can arrive at some of those corners quickly.

As for the noise limit question; well they are much stricter than they were due to continual problems with some of the local residents and there are now trackside monitors which are directly linked to the gatehouse. A minor infringement will have the owner having a discreet word with Don.
